Recycle Your Food Waste Correctly And Help Save Our Planet! 29/09/2024

Today marks International Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day, and here at RiverRidge, we strive to help customers across Northern Ireland dispose of their food waste in an efficient, sustainable way 🌍♻️

The aim of Food Loss and Waste Awareness Day is to draw attention to the high levels of food that is wasted globally. Here in Northern Ireland, it is estimated that households of four could save up to £1,000 a year by using up all the food they buy!

Reducing food waste not only helps the environment, but also supports food security and reduces unnecessary economic costs.

RiverRidge is proud that the food waste we collect is used to produce energy or compost from the waste stream, so our customers know, they are choosing the most environmentally friendly method of disposal when they work with us.

Together, we can make a difference, whether it's smarter meal planning, donating surplus food, or supporting sustainable practices, every small step helps.

We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you to those organisations that supported the Golf Day through participation in a fourball:

🏆 Thrilled to have been awarded the ‘Net Zero Champion’ award at the Export and Freight Transport and Logistics Awards 2024!

Following the launch of our ESG strategy in 2022, we undertook our journey to becoming a net zero champion, committing to minimising both our and our customers’ impact on the environment, implementing more environmentally friendly alternatives and developing innovative technologies, with our inaugural report, outlining our activities and success to date, released earlier this year.

To be recognised amongst our peers for the work we have undertaken is a fantastic achievement for the company, and well-deserved recognition for our hard-working team, but there is still much work to be done in this area.

A big thank you to the category judges, 4SquareMedia and Export and Freight for this award, and for hosting a great evening!

Creating better outcomes for our customers, colleagues, and community 🌱

Earlier this year, we released our inaugural ESG Report, which provided an in-depth look at our progress relating to our ESG goals, and the actions we are taking to reach those goals.

We are just over halfway through 2024, and today we are taking a look at some of the steps we have taken in the last six months that have helped us on our journey to achieving our environmental, social, and governance commitments.

🚛 To reach our net zero goals, we have commenced the upgrade of our fleet to more eco-friendly and sustainable vehicles.

📈 In May, we became a proud new member of women’s advocacy group, Women in Business NI.

🤝 We continue to support community initiatives across Northern Ireland.

Using the goals and principles set out in our ESG strategy and report, we continue to incorporate more sustainable practices across the entire organisation, in order to reach our sustainability goals

RiverRidge - Material Recovery Facilities 24/07/2024

👀 BEHIND THE SCENES | What happens to your waste?

RiverRidge has invested substantial amounts in developing our three Material Recovery Facilities.

The plants are first and foremost designed around the extraction of recyclable products which are co-mingled with commercial or municipal waste.

Each plant is designed to extract metals, plastics and papers using magnets, eddy currents, picking stations and near infra-red technology. The non-recyclable material at the end of the treatment process is then processed into waste derived fuels.

Find out more about the process at our Craigmore facility in the video below:
