Laser eye surgery provides a great solution to vision problems like myopia, hyperopia, and astigmatism. It is also generally regarded as a procedure that is safe, with minimal exposure to post-surgery risk.
Importantly too, laser eye surgery helps you dispense with the need for contact lenses, since its long-term benefits present a viable alternative.
Browse through the photos in this post to learn more about the advantages of laser eye surgery over contact lenses.
At Optimax, our laser eye surgery procedures can be used to correct a number of issues, so if you rely on glasses or contact lenses in order to see clearly, you could be eligible for treatment. Our prices are fixed with no hidden costs or extra payments. We also provide the option for you to pay for your laser eye surgery on finance and spread the expense.
You have probably heard about how smoking causes lung disease and cancer, but did you know that smoking harms your eyes too?
This doesn’t only apply to ci******es; va**ng solutions are just as dangerous. While they do not produce tar or carbon monoxide, they do have other chemicals with known and unknown negative effects.
The photos in this post highlight some of the vision problems that can be worsened by smoking, va**ng, or a combination of the two.

Popularly known as "long-sightedness", hyperopia is a vision problem in which nearby objects look blurred, while distant objects are more visible.
This occurs because the light entering the eye is focused behind the retina, rather than directly on it.
The photos here provide more information on the symptoms, long-term effects and treatment for hyperopia. Browse through to learn more.

Wavefront Technology is a cutting-edge method used to measure and analyse the unique characteristics of an individual's optical (eye) system.
By mapping the way light travels through the eye, wavefront technology creates a detailed, three-dimensional image of the eye's optical imperfections, including irregularities that are often undetectable with traditional methods. Compared to standard methods of eye care, it can detect and measure subtle, complex imperfections in the eye.
Wavefront Technology represents a significant advancement in eye care, offering a detailed, customised approach to vision correction. The photos in this post illustrate how it works, the vision correction procedures it applies to, and its far-reaching benefits.
At Optimax, we combine Wavefront and IntraLase treatment to create the Gold Standard for laser eye surgery. The development of wavefront technology has enabled us to provide a more accurate treatment for each and every patient.
Discover the transformative benefits of wavefront technology and experience the future of vision correction with Optimax. Schedule a consultation with one of our experienced eye care professionals today.

The optic nerve is the nerve that carries information from the eye to the brain. Impulses produced by the retina are sent to the brain via the optic nerve, where the impulses are developed into images.
The optic nerve is comprised of millions of nerve fibres that send visual messages to your brain to help you see. You have an optic nerve at the back of each eye that connects directly to your brain.
Browse through the photos to learn more about the functions of the optic nerve, signs of optic nerve disorders, conditions that could affect the optic nerve, and treatment for optic nerve problems.

Did you know that Optimax also collaborates with the NHS?
We are committed to delivering exceptional vision correction solutions utilising cutting-edge technology, and sometimes we get to support the NHS with our facilities as well.
We are always ready to take on NHS treatments at our Leicester & Newton Abbot clinics. We offer cataract surgery as well as glaucoma and dry eye treatment as part of the NHS Increasing Capacity Framework.
It's our pleasure to help with these treatments, particularly considering current data relating to the eye conditions earlier mentioned: at least 708,000 people in the UK are currently living with Glaucoma, and 30% of people 65 years or older have a visually impairing cataract in one or both eyes.

How conscious are we about the eye health of children around the world, and how much do we know about the importance of children's eye health?
August is globally recognised as Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month.
During this month, there is heightened emphasis on preventive paediatric eye care, and awareness is raised about the importance of taking care of children’s eyes.
Children are unique, and so is their sight. Safety and eye health are essential components of a fulfilling childhood and child development. The need to prioritise this becomes more glaring when you stumble on relevant data (illustrated in the photos here) which shows that people entrusted with child care need to be more proactive in protecting their eyesight.
Consider this: In the UK alone, research shows that over 1.6 million school-aged children could be living with an undiagnosed vision problem, potentially hindering their educational and social development.
At Optimax, we stress the importance of comprehensive eye care, and that (obviously) includes children’s eye health.
FIVE MAKEUP PRACTICES THAT ARE HURTFUL TO YOUR EYES
You may be hurting your eyes when you take on that trending makeup routine, without even knowing it!
We have probably heard about the harmful effects of certain beauty habits on the skin, but you may not realise that they also put your eyes in danger too. Participating in certain trends could lead to an eye infection, or even worse, long-term damage to vision.
At Optimax, our focus is not limited to eye surgery; we care about your all-round eye health too. Follow us for more eye care tips.

Laser eye surgery might seem like it’s a relatively modern phenomenon, but it’s actually been around for decades. There have been lots of key moments along the way, leading to laser eye surgery becoming what it is today.
Although there is some debate around the topic of who exactly came up with the concept of using the Excimer laser on the cornea, the first person to actually perform laser eye surgery with the Excimer laser on a patient was Dr Stephen Trokel in 1987. This method of laser eye surgery is called PRK (photorefractive keratectomy), which is no longer as common as there are now more advanced methods available.
The photos here illustrate the evolution of laser eye surgery, with references to the development of the lasers used in the procedure, and the modern technology used today.
At Optimax, we offer two types of laser eye surgery, LASIK and LASEK. The same lasers are used for each procedure and both produce outstanding results. We use Wavefront technology, which obtains a unique map of each eye and together with other tests we tailor the treatment accordingly.
