Last week two of our employees Aidan Munnelly and Mason Shelley spent the day volunteering in collaboration with Balfour Beatty plc as part of our social value commitment to the M25 J10 Project.

The pair helped prep and paint bathrooms at The Grange Centre in Bookham, who provide vital services supporting people with learning disabilities to lead independent and fulfilling lives.

It was a fantastic opportunity to meet current and past military personnel and discuss opportunities we can offer to those interested in construction.

Our hearts are broken for the victims of the devastating earthquake in Turkey-Syria.

We have donated all we can in terms of PPE inclusive of helmets, glasses, gloves & all surplus hi-vis clothing. We hope that the PPE can be used to assist in the search and rescue efforts.

Recent figures released by the Trussell Trust reveal that over the last six months, 1.3m emergency food parcels were provided to people – an increase of more than 50% compared to pre-pandemic levels.

In the same time period, 320k people had been forced to turn to a food bank in the The Trussell Trust network for the first time.

During the winter months and the rising cost of living, the need for foodbanks is now greater than ever.

The above was generously donated by a Zone employee this morning, to be distributed at our local foodbank in Erdington. There are even some treats for our four-legged friends!

Yesterday, Zone employees Con Allen and Peter Harman carried out abrasive wheel awareness training as part of the Balfour Beatty stand-up for safety day for members of the Lower Thames Crossing, A2, and M20 projects.

Lots of interaction and discussions took place between Balfour Beatty and the various contractors during the event - including new innovations that help remove risk, especially involving those working on highways projects.

The main aim being to make sure people who come to work go home safely at the end of the day.

There was such an amazing turn out and great to see some of our customers, projects and peers across the construction industry also supporting the event.

We also managed to get a glimpse of Andy Street & his team at West Midlands Combined Authority!

Today marks the start of National Inclusion Week.

Over the weekend we attended Birmingham Pride where we were proud to support Birmingham Blaze FC as they participated in the annual parade.

It was a fantastic celebration for the LGBTQ+ community and we are proud to have Zone Contractors’ logo associated with such a happy and inclusive event.

Yesterday we attended the Cherbourg’s Career Fair at Crestwood Community School to assist Balfour Beatty plc/The Smart Motorway Alliance on the M3. Our objective for the day was to inspire younger generations to consider construction as a career path. Our action-packed stand consisted of:

👷🏻‍♂️Demonstrations of Zone Contractors innovative ‘Zone Jobs’ mobile & tablet application (watch out for its launch in the near future);
👷🏽‍♀️VR technology to simulate onsite construction activities such as a VR digger simulator;
👨🏻‍💻360 Technology to highlight how the technology could be used to innovate and its potential uses on site;
👩🏿‍💼Drone Technology and how it is currently being used to survey construction projects;

We even had a scale excavator and articulated dump truck so the students at Crestwood School could try their hand at muck shifting!!!

Needless to say, the stand was a massive hit! Thank you to Kathryn Boyce for inviting us and Conor Chippendale for being our VR model! Also, a huge thank you to Dawn Smith for organising the event, it was great!

Today is International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia - a worldwide celebration of sexual and gender diversities.

Coinciding with this, it is an honour to announce that Zone Contractors are the official sponsors of Birmingham Blaze FC for the 2022/23 Season.

Birmingham Blaze FC are a LGBTQ+ Friendly football team competing within local Birmingham football leagues as well as within national and international football tournaments.

At Zone we are massive football fans but understand that the construction industry as well as football has historically been less accepting of a persons sexual orientation. We hope this partnership will ensure LGBTQ+ people feel welcomed and included when joining the organisation and whilst working within the industry!

It is apt on that we congratulate our employee Constantin-Alin Tilivea who has become our latest mental health first aider after undertaking a course this week.

It is important that we continue to increase our on site support presence who may spot triggers earlier or peers may feel more comfortable sharing with. Constantin is currently working on the A46 project, Binley.

It's International Womens Day and Women In Construction Week 🎉👷🏽‍♀️

Women make up just over half of the U.K. population, but only around 14% of construction industry professionals.

This year’s IWD theme is - there is still work to be done in turning attitudes around, diminishing stereotypes and removing any discrimination.

Today let's celebrate all Women and especially those who play such a vital role in an industry that has been long dominated by men. We want to encourage more women to consider a career in construction to showcase their abilities and become a more inclusive workforce.
