Tinkerbellend is a sculpture created by brothers Jake and Dinos Chapman. Perhaps an extension of the duo's infamous mutated mannequins, this sculptural oddity features motifs previously utilised by the pair. For example, the separately casted and painted Nike shoes can also be seen in 'Zygotic Acceleration, Biogenetic, De-Sublimated Libidinal Model' (1995).

Portraiture is Douglas McDougall's method of encapsulating and understanding the ongoing museum of human experience, with his focus mainly being on those who exist without or despite the system. After sketching out his portraits with charcoal, texture is added using objects such as scalpel blades, sharp cut erasers, and sandpaper. Weathered skin, wiry facial hair, and toothy grins are embodied in intense compositions that appear surreal and other-worldly.

'TV Land' is an original charcoal drawing by Douglas McDougall which will be featured in The Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery's upcoming exhibition 'Art Vault: The Investors Collection'. Producing a relatively small number of large-scale drawings each year, Douglas McDougall is an artist that creates work with a deep psychological impact. Although the use of charcoal is considered traditional, McDougall’s contextual influences and process adds a contemporary feel to this medium.

On the 8th day of Christmas my true love said to me, "Darling we should go and see Colin Fisher's solo art exhibition at The Birmingham Contemporary Art Gallery. Zilla said it's really nostalgic and reminds her of Brum back in the day and we still need to get a present for George!"

With beautifully illustrated depictions of Colin's boyhood growing up in Brum in the 1950's, these pieces would make a wonderful present for someone special or as a treat for yourself! All Colin's work is available to buy on our website.

As we move into the Xmas season, Birmingham has so much to celebrate, from our transition out of Covid to celebrating the innovation, entrepreneurship and creativity the City is renowned for.

On this positive note, the BCAG is delighted to invite collectors of art, historians, the business community and visitors to Colin Fisher's solo art exhibition, 'I Was Made In Brum' on Wednesday 1st December 6-9pm.

This is a special exhibition to celebrate one of our City's oldest practising artists who has lived a truly remarkable life, from growing up in the 1950's in post war Britain, to being drafted into the army at the age of 18 and called up for his first duties in Cyprus after his training on a freezing cold Christmas Eve in 1955.

Colin’s work will be on display and for sale at the BCAG for 4 weeks from 1st to 31st December 2021 and the public are encouraged to come and support this amazing artist by investing in a piece of his work, either for themselves or to give someone as a special gift at Xmas time.

Colin's work gives a nostalgic throwback that is colourful, theatrical and illustrative, and puts the City of Birmingham into an historic perspective that will bring smiles, joy and appreciation to the viewers. Each piece of work not only captures a story, but also the aspirations of a group of friends and how their lives transformed alongside the City they call home today.

The BCAG and Colin are thrilled to announce their partnership with for this exhibition, in recognition of all our soldiers who fought so bravely, and a percentage of all art sales will be donated to the charity.

We are also delighted to be partnering with and , official sponsors for the exhibition.

Colin's work can be reserved prior to the opening. Please contact the gallery at [email protected].

This is a red carpet event 🎀 and we look forward to seeing you at the opening. Tickets can be reserved in the link in our bio ⬆️
