I had the pleasure of visiting Mercedes AMG Petronas F1 today to have a look around their design, manufacturing and build facility.

A+5. A few pictures of Reg Cook and our 1071cc engine being used for a land speed record attempt during the month of October 2024 on the salt lakes of Bolivia.

The Covid lockdown and the subsequent down turn in our production allowed us the time to design 2 engines from a blank page to racing at Brands Hatch and attempting a land speed record.

All the components have been machined in-house.

A+5. The below Dyno print out shows what our 1273cc billet block produced using 73.50 mm pistons with a crankshaft stroke of 75.00 mm, the head was straight off the BMW K1200 RS bike without any modifications to valves/cams/combustion chamber’s.

So the question is what will our 1398.98cc produce?

A+5. Turbo exhaust manifold for Jim Lyons 1273cc aluminium billet block running his new twin scroll turbo. See you all at Silverstone 1st June. The early stages of the fabrication process is shown in the image below.

New delapena honing equipment. limited SpeedHone EAS for flexible honing. Fast tooling changes for one off production. Honing from 1mm to 80mm diameter, to tolerance of 1 micron.

The above was used to hone our Conrods and will be used on our wet liners.

A+5. Everything is now ready to be shipped to New Zealand for dyno testing. These pictures show the Conrods, Crankshaft and pistons being used on or 1071cc A+5 billet block using KADs Gen3 16V Turbo head.

A+5. Here we have the finished Hixbeam conrod just back from shot peening.

These are being used in the Land speed record attempt 1071cc A+5 engine.

The engine uses the Kent Auto Developments - KAD Gen3 16v turbo head with Reg Cook doing all the engine tuning and associated development to attempt a Guinness World Records

Tensile strength 2000-2100 MPa

A+5. Rods are back from who have completed the balancing of the Conrods which varied within 0.4 of a gram across the 4 rods from our machine shop! So he only needed to slightly work them to get them exactly on spec.

Andrews precision balancing in Bromsgrove have sponsored the land speed attempt using over 50 years of their experience balancing rotating assemblies in all aspects of engineering, special thanks to Trevor who is very old school a super nice guy with a fountain of knowledge when it comes to balancing.

These rods use 20.00 mm gudgeon pins DLC coated and 48.00 big ends and will be pushing the A+5 1071cc beyond the current 428 BHP achieved.

Omega pistons sponsored the pistons, again Fred has over 50 years of knowledge in piston design and manufacture.

This forms part of the Ascaso 1071cc turbo engine which uses KADs Gen3 16v cylinder head and Reg Cooks tuning expertise.
