Can anyone help us?
Update: Thank you for the amazing response we have received from this post! The neonatal unit now have plenty of squares to keep them going and do not need any more.
Update: To confirm the size required is between 5 to 10 cm square. If you have any further questions please contact 07976499507.
Are you a knitter or seamstress? Our neonatal unit urgently need your help to make bonding squares. When a tiny baby arrives on the unit, a bonding square is placed close to them, whilst its match is given to mum. The squares get swapped over so that baby has mum’s safe, familiar smell and mum can smell her baby when they are not together. This also helps mum express her breast milk.
We are looking for simple pairs of matching squares made from soft, clean, new fabric with hemmed edges (muslin fabric is good for these), knitted or crocheted but with no large hole that can trap little fingers or toes. Size between 5 to 10 cm square please.
Please address them to: The Infant Feeding Team, Maternity Department, City Hospital, Dudley Road, B18 7QH or drop them at the neonatal unit and mark for the attention of the infant feeding team.
Here they are again x our amazing NCOT team xx xx

Repost: The Breastfeeding Network (UK) If you're breastfeeding your little one in this heat, remember:
☀️ In hot weather, your baby may want to feed more often or for longer than usual.
☀️ If they're under 6 months and exclusively breastfed, there's no need to give any additional water - just feed on demand to keep them hydrated and make sure you're getting plenty of fluids yourself.
☀️ Your body will generally continue producing enough milk for your baby's demand (except if you get extremely dehydrated), but keep on top of your water and ice lolly intake for your own wellbeing!
☀️ Babies over 6 months who have started eating solid foods should be offered water in a cup with meals, and throughout the day in hot weather.
More info on keeping your baby safe in the sun can be found here:

Poorly West Bromwich mother and baby first to get help from new NHS service A tiny West Bromwich baby and her seriously ill mother were some of the first people to get help from a new service from the NHS.
Our lovely Carmen x smashing it 🤩
We're long overdue another Star of the Week, so congratulations to Carmen Nuttall, Neonatal Community Outreach Team (NCOT) Team Leader.
Carmen has taken on a new role, completely different to that which she was doing before, developed a service and team, which comprised of procuring new equipment, writing guidelines and SOPs, learning new data capture techniques, interviewing colleagues, writing patient leaflets, scoping out other services, both established and relatively new, and much much more.
The service, known as NCOT (Neonatal Community Outreach Team) recently launched - it has a Twitter account here: https://twitter.com/NcotSwbh - and will be a fabulous addition to neonatal services, enabling our babies to be cared for in the community by their parents/carers through facilitating special care treatment at home, empowering them in the care of their child/children.
Bye Phil, u will be missed by us all x enjoy your next chapter xx
Look what our amazing Carmen has done

We often get questions about hammocks and other baby products that pop up on Facebook and Instagram.
We do not recommend hammocks as they are not a firm flat surface for babies to sleep on. The safest place for your baby to sleep is on a firm, flat and waterproof mattress in a clear cot or sleep space.
Our bodies are amazing 🤩
It’s 💋😘!! Have you ever wondered why we have a biological urge to kiss our babies? While it may not be safe for other people to kiss your baby, for parents, it can be irresistible! 💜
Admiring and kissing your baby is actually a natural response to parental instincts. Not only are you performing "claiming behaviours" (much like an animal licks their newborn to become familiar with their baby), but if your baby is breastfed, you are providing them with the EXACT antibodies needed to keep them healthy.
By kissing baby, the body analyses any pathogens that baby may have come into contact with, then creates the antibodies to fight that pathogen, creating a custom breastmilk 'recipe' to treat it, even if baby is not nursing directly from the breast. These antibodies are specifically tailored to bacteria and viruses found in your environment. Just 20 minutes after being exposed to an infectious agent, the body produces the matching antibody in the milk. Amazing!
