Progressive, student-led faith in action π We also work closely with University Chaplaincies and Churches to support students whilst at university.
The Student Christian Movement of Britain has been a quiet but powerful presence in university life since 1889, making us the oldest Christian student organisation in the UK. We are a radically inclusive, student-led, LGBTQ+ affirming Christian community, and we provide a home for students to explore an open-minded Christian faith, pursue justice, and discover the beauty of an ecumenical community
Want us to run a workshop with your student group? Phoebe and Soph are ready and waiting! Get in touch now for workshops on refugees, theological reflection, human rights, and LGBTQ+ pride. Interested in another topic? Just get in touch and we'll see what we can do!
Email [email protected] or [email protected] for more info or to book a workshop visit.

You'll find a place to explore a radical, lived theology that puts the liberative justice of Jesus front and centre. And most of all, you'll find a place where you can simply be yourself, and belong π

Join an SCM Community! π
If you're a Christian who wants to grow as a thoughtful disciple, belong to an inclusive, q***r-affirming community, challenge injustice locally and globally, and explore a progressive faith, then an SCM community is the place for you! All of our communities look different - some meet on campus, some are connected with a church or chaplaincy, some are more of a network of like-minded students and recent graduates, some meet online - but you'll find a warm welcome at all of them! We currently have active SCM communities in Glasgow, Sheffield, Durham, Keele, Manchester, Birmingham, Coventry & Warwick, Cambridge, Ess*x, Exeter, Southampton and Brighton, plus our ever-growing Trans* Theology Group who meet online.
No community at your uni? No problem! We currently have people on the ground interested in starting groups in Bristol, Oxford, Plymouth, Leeds, and Nottingham. If you're at uni somewhere else, you can either get in touch about starting a group, or join SCM as a national member. Either way you'll be connected in to a movement of like-minded, progressive students πβ¨οΈ
You've heard all the obvious tips for starting uni - bring a doorstop for when you're feeling sociable, don't worry if you're flatmates aren't your besties, go to at least some of your lectures - but here are some of our tips you might not have considered!
Check out the whole blog at movement.org.uk/blog.

Many people have been unsettled by the events recently in the UK. In this time we want to pray for peace and for peacemakers. We want to stand in solidarity with those affected and encourage you to do the same, working together in bringing understanding of one another and overcoming the spread of hate. π

Join us in urging Wes Streeting MP to reconsider the ban on puberty blockers. Take action now!
We're asking Wes Streeting MP to
- Reconsider extending the ban on puberty blockers
- Clearly state the timeline, scope, and nature of the planned clinical trial.
- Reassure young trans people, their families and communities.
If you care about access to trans* affirming healthcare, please use our template letter or the provided bullet points to write to your MP as a matter of urgency. Your voice can really make a difference, especially if your MP is a newbie! Remember, your letter or email will have the most impact if you personalise it, so if you use our template add in some of your own details.
More tips on the blog, as well as a downloadable template and suggested bullet points. Not sure how to email your MP? Check out our handy guide in the last post.

Our Story
We are a movement of students, past and present, responding to the call of Jesus to follow him and show the love of God on campus, in our communities, and in the world. We come together as an ecumenical and inclusive community, fostering unity in diversity and exploring faith through worship, discussion and intentional action. SCM is also part of the global network of SCMs - World Student Christian Federation (WSCF). We have local groups and individual members at universities and colleges around the UK. To find a student group near you search for your city or university on SCM Connect.
Deepening Faith
Drawing on scripture, our lived experience, theology and church traditions, we aim to critically engage with our faith to learn and grow as Christians.
