Factual Friday!
Have you turned the music down to see better?
Taken your glasses off to hear better?
Are you guilty of doing this? I definitely am! people have often said to me, what are you doing? that won't make you see better! and then I read this..
"The human body is complicated and intricately connected. Our eyes and ears work together more than we realize, and the decline of one can adversely affect the other. Your vision and hearing are linked in ways you may not suspect. Both of these senses are processed by your brain to allow a total perception of your environment. The eyes and ears are physically linked by nerve pathways responsible for vestibulo-ocular reflex or VOR. This reflex connects the inner ear to the muscles responsible for the movements of your eyes. Combining these two senses allows you to be aware of your environment and to situate yourself in your surroundings as you go about daily activities."
The line up has been announced for the next series of Married at First Sight, Ross is the first deaf contestant to appear on the Channel 4 show. He was born deaf, wears 2 hearing aids, but has never let this define who he is and what he wants to do in life. I'm looking forward to watching the new series, will you be too?
We're delighted to see Channel 4's Married at First Sight UK feature its first deaf contributor, Ross McCarthy! Ross was born deaf and wears two hearing aids but has never let it define him. We hope his story helps raise awareness and highlights the experiences of deaf people.
Teri Devine, Director for Inclusion at RNID, said: “1 in 3 adults in the UK are deaf or have hearing loss. Our latest research showed that more than two thirds of our communities say they have experienced negative attitudes or behaviours. And over half of survey participants reported regularly being excluded from conversations, with people saying ‘it doesn’t matter’ when they struggle to understand what is being said.
"We hope this new series of MAFS will show ‘it does matter’ and shine a light on how very simple it is for everyone to make changes in the way they communicate
and ensure deaf people and people with hearing loss are included.”

People often ask me what does microsuction feel like, what is the process?
So I had a go! Enabling me to experience the feeling and also see what was lurking in my ears.
Helen, our Hearing Care Assistant first of all showed me the inside of my ears and explained what I was looking at, and what bit was what. On the second photo you will see the microsuction suction tube that is used to remove any unwanted wax.
I felt very relaxed and put at ease during the process, I didn't experience any pain or discomfort and actually enjoyed the process.
I'm sure a lot of you have met Helen before, if you haven't.. come meet her, she's pretty much guaranteed to make you leave with a Smile! 😁
Still unsure, check out our reviews.

Just goes to show how much hearing aids have changed and how far technology has come. Isn't it amazing the things that technology can do for us now?
Having worn hearing aids for the past 45 years, Justin Osmond knows a thing or two when it comes to hearing technology. Catch his perspective on how hearing aids have changed over the years and the advantages of modern technology in this special guest blog: https://brnw.ch/21wLMil.
Regular user of in ear head phones?
Zoom meetings, work calls or listening to music… are you using in ear headphones a lot more? If so you could be damaging your ears.
Generally, people don’t regularly clean their ear pods properly and dirt and bacteria are being transferred to the ear increasing the risk of ear infections. The eardrum and delicate hairs in the inner ear are also very susceptible to loud noise so close to the ear increasing the risk of hearing loss.
The problem is that they prevent earwax from naturally working its way out of the ear. Instead, earphones push the wax further into the ear canal, causing a blockage.
If you are experiencing any of the following:
👂Earache
👂Feeling of fullness in the ear
👂Dizziness
👂Tinnitus
👂Hearing loss

The roar of an F1 car 🏎 as it tears across the racetrack is unmistakable, with engines reaching a staggering 140 decibels! According to Guinness World Records, the cockpit of a Formula 1 racing car is the noisiest workplace in the world. Consequently, drivers wear specialised ear protection to guard against the intense noise exposure.

Happy World Brain Day!
Hearing loss has been identified as a potentially modifiable risk factor for dementia and changes in brain health, Studies have shown that people who use hearing aids are less likely to develop dementia. Hearing aid use was also associated with fewer memory problems and thinking problems independent of dementia. Tracking hearing aid use over a long period showed that it was associated with less decline in memory skills.

Summer is here (not that it feels like it..) and so are the sounds of the season; waves crashing on the beach, birds singing in the morning, ice cubes clinking in your refreshing drink and children laughing and playing in the pool..
If you find yourself missing out on some of these sounds, don't let hearing loss dampen your summer – it might be time to book a hearing test. 🦻
Fun Fact Friday..
In space, no one can hear you scream because there's no air (or other medium) to carry sound waves. Astronauts rely on radios to communicate.

The increase in online gaming with headsets exposes children to higher decibel levels for extended periods, putting their hearing at risk. This article effectively highlights research on the potential damage, not just for gamers but also for regular headphone users who listen to music. It's an important message to share.
