St Peter's Catholic Comprehensive School
St Peter’s Bournemouth is a Catholic all-through school (4-19) with a strong Christian ethos which underpins all we do.
Congratulations to our Sixth Form students collecting their grades today. We wish all of our outgoing Year 13 students the very best as they progress on to the next stage of their lives and encourage them to stay in touch over the coming years, as we are sure they will continue to achieve great things!
Our Sixth Form students are celebrating another great set of results. Over 25% of students achieved an A or A* in two or more of their courses with nine students securing an A or A* in at least three subjects. Students following vocational pathways performed superbly, with over 35% of grades being awarded the equivalent of an A or A*. These are just a few of the highlights of a wonderful day for our students.
Headteacher, Ben Doyle, was delighted, saying “These results did not happen by chance, it is down to the hard work and dedication of our fantastic students, the expert instruction and pastoral care provided by our incredible staff, and a solid home school partnership.”
84% of our students have already confirmed a place at their first choice university, with destinations and courses for our students wide and varied. These include such courses as studying Law at Southampton, Biomedical Sciences at Southampton and Mathematics and Sports Science at Loughborough University.
Particularly successful students include Harvey Brinson and Celine Hanna with 3A’s, Tilly Gibson with 2A* and 1A, Dominic Owen with 1A*, 2A’s and 1B and Matty Grzybowski with 2A* and 1A.
Simon Atkins, Head of Sixth Form said: "We are extremely proud of all of our students and their efforts. The results are a real reflection of their incredible work ethic over the last two years and they fully deserve all of their success."
Good luck to all our Sixth Form students collecting results tomorrow.
A LEVEL EXAM RESULTS
Thursday 15 August 2024
If you are unable to collect your results in person, you MUST give a signed letter of authority to the person collecting on your behalf. This person MUST bring some form of ID with them. Any results not collected on the day will be posted to the home address that we have on file.
Last week our whole school community took part in our Ethos Day, a whole school community event, with students from Reception through to Year 12 taking part.
Feedback was really positive with so many students and staff having a great day. Members of the public, and Andrew (guest speaker) were very complimentary about our students. It was a great event and a powerful reminder of what a brilliant community we have at St Peter's.
This year the charities supported by donations were Reaching the Unreached: Brother Lionel's Charity for Impoverished Children in India and MacMillan Cancer Support: A charity which has provided tremendous support and help to former members of staff and their families.
Alongside raising funds for our two wonderful charities, we are hoping Ethos Day may give us an opportunity to raise support for the St Peter's Development Fund – monies raised this year will be used to focus on recycling and other 'green' initiatives around the school.
The library are running a summer reading challenge for secondary students over the holidays, with a certificate and a small prize for all completed entries.
Students will receive a scented ice cream bookmark when they borrow a book from the library and take an entry form.
Thank you for your help with encouraging reading over the holidays.
Happy summer reading!
The Library
Just a reminder we have period products available through the period products scheme.
If students need sanitary supplies ahead of the summer holiday break, please ask in the student hub. We have tampons, sanitary pads and reusable pads available.
The scheme is available to students who have forgotten their products, can't afford products or have come on their period unexpectedly.
Last Thursday saw Secondary participating in the annual sports day. Students competed in athletics as well as football, netball, basketball, volleyball, tug of war, indoor rowing and dance. The weather was good and the atmosphere was excellent. The day was a real success, with students competing hard but with a real sense of inclusivity and sportsmanship.
The eventual winners were Mission (yellow) and it was a real pleasure to have so many parents in attendance to share the afternoon races with us.
Several long-standing records were broken on the day and we will soon be able to release an updated version of the school sports records as they now stand.
Thanks to all involved and to parents for their support with the house coloured tops.
A big shout out to all the students who took part in the Town Sports Last week. Some great personal performances and exciting relay finals. Excellent attitude and team moral throughout the day.

Maths Teachers, Mrs Dunn and Mr Willmore, will be taking part in the Relay For Life on 13 July in memory of Claire Wallace and to raise funds for Cancer Research UK.
Claire was the total life and soul of St Peter's Maths Department. Perpetually happy and positive and hugely loved by staff and students alike. She died from pancreatic cancer very suddenly. Annually, we come together to be part of the 'Be More Claire' team to raise funds to give others the chance to fight cancer. We will be walking/jogging/running during the 12-hour fundraising challenge.
To donate and support the team, please see www.justgiving.com/fundraising/kirstydunn-6688ef0a81744f13b520e7a1?utm_source=IG
Relay For Life celebrates the power of community fundraising to make breakthroughs happen. Across the UK and the globe, teams of friends and family fundraise for world-leading cancer research. Then, we unite as a collective at a weekend festival to honour everyone affected by cancer and celebrate the progress we’re making. Together, we remember loved ones and celebrate the tomorrow’s made possible. Together we are beating cancer.
Congratulations to Mr Willmore, St Peter's Maths Teacher, for coming Third in the Fastest Teacher in the South West competition!
Earlier this year, with the help of two of our Teaching Assistants at Primary, we started an after-school Gardening Club. By the end of September we are hoping for a good harvest of potatoes, corn, tomatoes, pumpkins, onions and carrots.
Good progress has already been made towards our vision for a growing learning environment and the project sits well alongside the re-wilding work by Mr Motte (TA and Forest School Leader) who has created a dipping pond and been planting new trees, bushes and an area for wildflowers. We have already seen an increase in birds and insects visiting our school fields, which is supporting the Littledown Greenway project led by Bournemouth Parks Foundation.
All this is exciting for the children to see and be part of and is a source of many practical activities and discussions, including the recent talk on bees by Janet, our wonderful beekeeping librarian!
If you can offer help with any of the items below, please could you drop them at our Primary site (St Peter's School, Holdenhurst Avenue, Bournemouth BH7 6RG) during school term time or email [email protected]

The monthly Teenage Tea and Talk drop in is an informal time to come and chat amongst each other, share concerns, have a cuppa, and not feel alone. This group is facilitated by Navigators who can also offer practical advice and guidance during what can be a challenging time.
The next Teenage Tea and Talk is on Wednesday 31 July, 9.30am to 11am at Somerford Family Hub, Draper Road, Christchurch BH23 3AS. Email [email protected]

The Yoto Carnegies are the UK’s longest running and best-loved children’s book awards, recognising outstanding reading experiences created through writing and illustration in books for children and young people.
The Medal for Writing is awarded by children’s librarians for an outstanding book written in English for children and young people.
The Shadowing Scheme, which St Peter’s has taken part in for over twenty years, engages thousands of children and young people in reading the books on the shortlist via reading groups in schools and public libraries.
Over the past three months, our St Peter’s shadowing group, made up of ten students from Year 7-10 and library staff, have been reading, reviewing and enjoying the eight books short-listed by the Yoto Carnegies, the UK’s longest running and best-loved children’s book awards. Each reader voted for their favourite and the book with the most votes from our group was…Safiyyah’s War by Hiba Noor Khan. This was put forward to Carnegie, and we then had to wait a few weeks to see if this book matched the winning book announced on the 20 June.
On the day, the judges voted for The Boy Lost in the Maze by Joseph Coelho as the overall winner.
Nationally, the shadowing groups voted for Crossing the Line by Tia Fisher which was the St Peter’s group second choice.
Thank you to all the students who took part this year; they each received a certificate and a small treat.
All the books are available and on display in the library for a recommended summer read.

Last week most of the Year 12 Art students had their work in the BEAF (Boscombe Emerging Arts Festival) show. They worked with an artist to produce responses to highlight National Windrush Day.
As we enter the summer, SENDiass4BCP find they see fewer people coming along to their in-person and online events. They also have fewer staff available over the summer months. This means they’ll have fewer drop-ins and workshops available to attend – but there are still a number of workshops over June, July, and August. Please do pop along if you have any questions!
To see what workshops they have coming up, take a look at their Events page https://sendiass4bcp.org/events/.
As always, they are still there at the end of the phone (please leave a voicemail though if you don’t get through, and they will call you back, please include a brief reason why you’re calling), they can help via email as well. There is also support available by watching their recorded webinars (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCLzmZYKx8HsL8ANPO2qfpgQ), or reading through their online support (https://sendiass4bcp.org/support/).

8FR enjoyed a trip to Flavours school of cookery last week, thanks to Scarlett Scanlon who won the Spring design competition. The tutor group enjoyed making Arancini with Marcus and his team of chefs. We were very proud of their efforts and also want to say a huge well done to George for his fantastic runner-up entry in the competition. We advise you to check out Flavours summer school, for engaging and fun cookery classes. A big thank you to Marcus and his team for having us.
Tom in Year 7 is raising funds for his "Grow a Pound" Challenge entry. He has been fortunate enough to secure an AFC Bournemouth shirt signed by the whole team on the final day of the season. It has now been framed and is presented with a certificate of authenticity. Tom will be selling £1 raffle tickets in the canteen every lunch time for the chance to win the shirt. There is also a runners-up prize of a voucher. The draw will be made at the end of term.
All proceeds will be going towards PTA supported projects at St Peter's.
News update from SENDiass4BCP:
This Wednesday 19/06, you can chat with Rebecca at Rossmore Hub, or Orela at Turlin Moor Hub, both at 09:30-11:30.
We've workshops next week, then a few drop-ins the following week, but there are fewer available over the summer - so get 'em while they're hot!

Year 10 Food prep students had a really informative and enlightening morning at ‘The Pig in the Forest’. They learnt about sustainability through business, the importance of reducing waste and also food provenance. They walked through the grounds learning about the way they preserve foods in order to feed guests sustainably. 82% of the hotels produce comes from the gardens. Students were able to pot plants, sample food in the kitchen garden and meet with the education team to talk about sustainability and responsibly sourced produce. We’d like to say a huge thank you to Lex, Kate and Oli at the Pig who made our morning one we will never forget. This is especially important for the students food exam next year.
A well done Wednesday story... See what our fabulous and innovative friends at Shea O’Connor, our partner school in South Africa, have been up to.
