Not often that I speak at a meeting that is live streamed on Facebook!!
This morning giving a public deputation at the Bournemouth Council Audit and Governance Committee, on behalf of the Trustees of Kinson Community Association, presenting our views about the systemic failings of the Bournemouth Council Anti-fraud and Corruption Policy after 4 years of the Charity raising concerns with the Council.
Hope it will have some impact in making senior officers review the policy to ensure that any suspicions of fraud and corruption are taken seriously and properly investigated.

Statement from David Brown, Chairman of Kinson Community Association, the registered charity that runs Kinson Community Centre:
“Kinson Community Association is very pleased that after 4 years of raising concerns with Bournemouth Borough Council, they have finally launched an independent investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement by Bournemouth Borough Council officers who previously had responsibility for managing the community centre, as reported in today’s Daily Echo. To clarify, this investigation is into past mismanagement by Council Officers and not the current Charity management of the Centre. KCA are cooperating with this investigation, but at this time, matters are in the hands of our Solicitors and we cannot comment further on the detail of the allegations.
There have been recent rumours circulating regarding the future of the Centre and its use. We have been fighting a lengthy battle with our landlord, Bournemouth Borough Council, including threats to our tenancy, which have been unsuccessful. This has not stopped us from ensuring that the local community continues to benefit from the excellent facilities that we have to offer.
Kinson Community Centre has served the local community since 1952 and KCA still has 80 years to run on the current lease. KCA is a self-funding charity since financial support from Bournemouth Borough Council was withdrawn in 2015. It is the largest and busiest community centre in Bournemouth and is a successful and much-loved venue. With nearly 100 different groups running activities at the Centre and serving up to 2,000 local people each week the Centre is busier than ever.”
The Trustees and Staff of Kinson Community Centre would like to assure all our groups, members and visitors that we are very much open for business and look forward to your continued support.
Investigation launched into running of community centre AN INDEPENDENT investigation has been launched into a local authority’s running of a community centre, following allegations of years of financial…
