Do you ever hear a voice that totally turns you off, to the point you find it uncomfortable to listen to?

Women especially will sometimes push the larynx downwards in an attempt to lower their pitch and sound more confident and authoritative on their subject. Without other necessary adjustments, such as breath pressure and more, this results in a grating sound that doesn’t seem to quite fit. It creates a discord between the sound they are making and how they are actually feeling. This confuses the listener and makes them feel uncomfortable.

This morning my yoga teacher, Rachel, ended our class by thanking us all. She said working with us makes her happy. Even if she starts the day feeling down, she loves her work and it never fails to bring her mood right back up. I know exactly what she means. Wooohoo everyone, it's World Voice Day! ... World What-What Day??

Every day is a Something Day. Well, World Voice Day celebrates the phenomenon of VOICE. La! 🤗

Don't yawn. I have some good points coming...

I have a client with Parkinson's disease. My job is to manage their voice as best possible for as long as possible. Last week they looked me in the eyes and said they can accept the rest of it, but the thought of losing clarity of speech and vocal communication is terrifying.

And, that is just it. We take our voices for granted. It is not until the voice stops doing what we expect it to do that we realise just how vulnerable we are without it.

I work with people whose lives are compromised because of their voices. Some come to me with no voice at all, some have voices in jeopardy after illness or due to the heavy vocal load associated with their job. Some don't have a voice "problem"; they just realise how much more effective and powerful they can be in life if they understand their voice better and learn how to use it optimally. Your voice is a survival mechanism, but it is also HUGELY flexible and the sound of it can make or break.

Wikipedia says, "The aim [of World Voice Day] is to demonstrate the enormous importance of the voice in the daily lives of all people... A goal of World Voice Day is to encourage all those who use their voice for business or pleasure to learn to take care of their voice, and know how to seek help and training, and to support research on the voice." See, it's not just me!

And, by the way, your voice is critical for your brand. It needs to match.
