Wow, what a celebration of the arts our Creative Arts Exhibition was this week! It was wonderful to see the whole BCS community come together to celebrate βπ
What a wonderful celebration of achievements at our BCS Prep Prize Giving Ceremony ππ Congratulations to all our prize winners and pupils for their hard work and achievements this year. We are so proud of each and every one of you! πΆ
Mock Election Day at BCS β
BCS Senior held a 'mock election' for pupils, to teach them about the importance of voting, encouraging them to make their own decisions instead of being influenced by others. Ran by sixth formers and teachers, all year groups had the chance to listen to the facts and places their votes. It was fantastic to see such great engagement from our pupils in democracy and politics. π
Our promenade performances of The Lion, the Witch & the Wardrobe were a wonderful success last week - with four events over two nights, our pupils put on an enchanting show, taking us on their journey into the mystical land of Narnia. It was a proud moment to see all their hard work come into fruition! ππ
Our distance crew travelled to the Cotswold Water Park in June for the Swim England South West Regional Open Water Championships. The championships were run in conjunction with the West Midlands and East Midlands regions which added to the atmosphere and competitiveness of racing.
Georgia was 6th out of the water after 1hr17mins of swimming in the women's 16 years 5km and took silver in the South West region.
Rosina was 9th out of the water in a time of 45 minutes in the women's 15 years 3km and claimed 4th in the South West region.
Scott was 5th out of the water in a time of 39 minutes in the men's 15 years 3km and claimed bronze in the South West region.
The top four swimmers in each age group of the South West Region qualify for the Swim England National Open Water Championships that will take place in Rother Valley Park, Sheffield on 27 July. Meaning all three BCS swimmers will be at the summer showcase. A wonderful achievement and a very proud coach!
It was fantastic to invite all our new Year 7s for a Familiarisation Day at BCS Senior. The pupils took part in Science, History, Religious Studies and Geography lessons, plus some fun teambuilding activities - it was a great opportunity to meet their teachers and get to know their new classmates. We're looking forward to you all joining us in September! π
The Eco Gardening Club were delighted to receive a Highly Commended award for their garden entry to the 'Bournemouth in Bloom' competition 2024 - this year celebrating 200 yrs of the RNLI. The pupils painted and planted the boat planters and the DT department helped make a wooden lighthouse and sign; they had designed the garden and used blue lobelia to represent the sea, with some of the plants being grown from seed. Amazing to see such great teamwork producing such fantastic results! πΈπΌπ
Year 12 Psychology pupils put their knowledge of structured observations into action this week conducting an observation of social behaviour on Southbourne beach. They soaked up the sun while collecting quantitative data to analyse. βοΈ
Our Rugby Academy members had a fantastic trip to visit Farleigh House thanks to Bath Rugby. Such a wonderful opportunity for our pupils, who had the chance to train on the training pitch, listen to a talk on Mental Toughness and take part in a strength and conditioning session in the team's gym πποΈββοΈ
We are truly embracing the sunshine here at BCS! βοΈ It's been wonderful to take learning outdoors and make use of our outdoor space, facilities and the beautiful beach just five minutes away from the senior school. Summer has finally arrived π
Year 6 enjoyed a wonderful week on the Opal coast in France last week. π«π· The rain on day one could not stop us from experiencing what life underground was like during the war as we visited the Vimy Ridge memorial followed by an amazing trip to Europe's largest aquarium - Nausicaa. π
There was no shortage of food on the trip - particularly on our second day as we visited a Boulangerie to have a go at traditional bread making. π₯ This was then followed up by visiting behind the scenes in a chocolate factory and then a Snail farm where garlic snails were on the menu!
Our final day was all about having fun - spending a day at Parc Bagatelle! Screams and cheers were the order of the day as pupils were flipped, spun and hung upside down on a whole range of rollercoasters and rides. Thankfully the garlic snails did not make a reappearance!
All in all a wonderful way to spend their last residential as a BCS Prep pupil π

Year 5 Taster Day at BCS Senior π
BCS Prep Year 5 pupils had the opportunity to enjoy a 'day in the life' of a BCS Senior pupil this week. π They tried a variety of lessons including English, Geography, History, DT and Drama. The pupils particularly enjoyed making light reflectors for the garden in DT trying out the big column drills and an oven to help twist the plastic.
The BCS Football Academy enjoyed a fantastic afternoon at AFCB last month, having a training session and tournament on the Vitality Stadium 1st team pitch. This was a timely reward for pupils in Year 7-9 who have worked incredibly hard in their academy sessions this year.
Our Year 10 art pupils had a brilliant opportunity to work with the Home Design Team at John Lewis Branksome, on an interior design task in store. π
The pupils were given a tour of the store and styled room sets, then had an hour to create a moodboard around a specific brief with help from the interior experts in store!
All the pupils did so well, and a big thank you to John Lewis for hosting us for such a inspiring and educational day β
