Another little job I did for an elderly couple, whose eyesight is unfortunately not what it once was.
They asked me to swap a few sockets for ones with LED’s and add LED light back plates to their light switches, the back plates have an LED that lights up when the light is off. I hadn’t seen those before but managed to find where I could order them online.
They also had me fit one of those Amazon remote control LED light fittings with the reversible fans, I’ve put up a couple of those now and people really do seem to like them.

Nice job I did for a lovely couple in Bridgwater. Originally clients wanted to run a supply to provide lighting and power to an outbuilding, they wanted to supply a 13Amp hot tub which was being provided for therapeutic purposes.
We discussed options and as they had a split board with no spare ways on the RCD side, we needed to upgrade the consumer unit, so I priced options to provide what they’d asked for, or run a bigger supply to a 2nd consumer unit in the outbuilding, capable of supplying a 32Amp hot tub in the future (in my experience people tend to not like the hot tub and not use it or like it a lot and quickly upgrade).
I also gave the option while the work was being done to run a second supply to the outside wall that an SWA could be connected to, to supply a EV charge point.
The clients considered the options and could see the added value of taking them and decided to future-proof themselves. The decisions took themselves as for a marginal cost increase from the minimum installation, we provided massive value adds and significant potential future cost savings.

I was booked in Monday morning to do some testing for a customer who’d been having some nuisance tripping.
I got a call from him this afternoon saying he could smell burning in the consumer unit and had turned everything off.
When I got there I could smell the burning but could not initially see anything obvious. On breaking down the board I could see the main switch was melted and stuck to the first MCB and the plastic rail had started to melt, he’s lucky there wasn’t a fire, the only thing backing up the main switch is the incoming fuse. Obviously, the mechanism was not making properly, and high resistance was causing it to heat up.
Unfortunately, the board and its components are no longer manufactured, but I managed to get the power back on temporarily with non-type matched parts and have quoted to replace the consumer unit with an 18th Edition metal-clad consumer unit.
If you are getting nuisance tripping or smell a fishy or burning smell from your electrics, do not ignore it. Call your electrician to come and check the issue, it could have been a lot worse for this customer. Lucky for him we caught it in time, and losing my Saturday afternoon was a small price to pay.

A couple of little jobs for a client, managed to find an excellent match for a faulty socket, replaced a broken back box and added an outside light. I provide a jobbing electrician service to the community, no job is too small, please call if you need an electrician.

Replaced consumer unit and rewired Garage for a lovely couple on Bower. Replaced old light fittings for energy-saving LEDs, replaced plastic sockets and switch for durable metal-clad fittings and added an outside socket.

A couple of smart pendants I installed for clients recently, replacing their existing fittings (fixed a bathroom light as well while I was there). Working with the car park company at Angle Place, while they upgrade their machine stands (boo, hiss), on the upside its free parking while works completed today.:) free parking is making people's day.
