The ‘critters’ have arrived ! in both brooches and fridge magnets… including designs made possible by the wonderful James Simmons !

All set up and ready for the start of a new year at Lynton Arts and Crafts Centre.

Finishing off penguin hanging decorations for Taunton Christmas Market!

James Simmons is a very clever man!

Made me some cookie cutters for robins, fungi and a beach hut for my fridge magnets!

So compare results as to …..’ what it says on the tin’…..
Not exact, but still nice glazes!

Again, finished firing for ‘algae’

Slapped the glaze on thick, lots of iron filings (?) and a 30 minute soak instead of 20 minutes.

Again very pleased with the results.

So;
Kiln firing for fantasy glazes ‘puristic’…
Fist piccy in the kiln ready to be glazed. Slapped the glaze on pretty thick, and made sure there were plenty of iron filings(?) mixed in…..
In at 1080 degrees, and I upped the soak from 20 minutes to 30 minutes.
( I must be feeling flush with the electric lol)

Just to follow on from the last post;
The heart is ‘mauvience’ ( one I made a while ago) the flowers are ‘puristic’.
Very similar in colours, and again slightly different to the chrysanthos examples.

Two tests out of the kiln this morning on the chrysanthos fantasy glazes.
Fired to 1800, which is slap bang in the middle of their recommended firing range. ( cone 04 to 03)

Well, ‘algae’ turned out well, not too sure about ’puristic’ as it’s very similar to ‘mauvience’….. although to be fair I didn’t think I shook the bottle well enough before application….. oopsie!

( the two circular photographs bottom right are what chrysanthos’s say they will come out, but I suspect there’s a long soak in there somewhere in the firing)

I’m going to go ahead and do a batch of ‘algae’ now, but I will give that bottle a darn good shake 😂

I was a bit apprehensive about ordering these direct from China, and paying in dollars with fedex delivery…
But they arrived with no problems a week after I ordered them.
These will be used on my brooches……
