How I Changed My Body Composition ⬇️

AKA Reducing body fat 🔽 & Increasing muscle mass 🔼 ‘Getting Toned’

Since I started training in 2017 I have gone through building (bulking) phases and cutting (fat loss) phases. I’ve also spent time living and not tracking at all!

One thing I stress to my clients who come to me with goals of looking ‘toned’ is that a toned physique is achieved not just by weight loss and tons of cardio…

Yes, initially it’s good to cut excess body fat before going into a build phase, but a cut without a build will make you slim - it won’t build muscle.

There are ‘newbie gains’ in the first year of training, but to really achieve a toned body and change your body composition, you have to go through build phases too with higher calories.

I used to fear higher calories but there are so many benefits of being in a calorie surplus; increased energy, mood, strength, s*x drive, performance and hormone function. You also make the dieting / cut phase easier when you have been used to higher calories first.

From a young girl who was ashamed of her body and felt ‘too big’ compared to other girls at school.. I have never felt more confident and empowered by my body than I have through weight training. It’s made me feel strong, less fearful and I’ve been able to enhance and transform areas of my body that I have been self conscious of. I’m also much happier being heavier at my maintenance weight than I was before! I don’t worry about what I weigh.

I am truly passionate about getting women into weight training because the benefits are life changing! ✨

THE MAIN REASON PEOPLE DON’T SEE RESULTS…
…they give up ‼️

NOT because they had a ‘bad’ weekend or went overboard…

Certain times of the year, when we have more social occasions, can make a diet challenging but not if you shift your mindset around it.

Results may slow if you do have lots going on but any progress is still moving you closer to your goal. Learning to stay in shape around having a life is such a helpful tool for the rest of your life!
Learning good choices when you’re out and about socialising and healthier options you can go for will make such a difference to your long term results 💖 This is what I help my clients with on their programs ☺️

There won’t always be the perfect conditions to start. You also don’t have to miss out to get results!

There are so many wins outside of what the scales say too:

💫 Increased confidence
💫 Creating / strengthening daily habits
💫 Improved strength in workouts
💫 Improved fitness
💫 Healthier mindset
💫 Improved mental health (I can’t stress this one enough)

You can do both girl! 🙌🏻 I certainly do! Learning the right balance for you is key for long term happiness and sustainable results 🔑

CONGRATULATIONS TO MY 12 WEEK CHALLENGE WINNER!!! 👏🏻🔥🥇 SAMMY!!!!

She has lost 8.4kg 🙌🏻 & she is carrying on her journey with me to reach her longer term goal 🫶

Sammy has been on such a journey since we started in January… Going through a break up and deciding to take action for the better. She wanted to gain her confidence back and to feel happy again ❤️
She’s had ups and downs in the 12 weeks and even ended her last week with tonsillitis but still nothing stopped her!! Often things that would want to make you give up, didn’t stop Sammy!
She also joined a gym and got out her comfort zone during the plan 🔥

She’s overcome so many hurdles! I am beyond proud of her and I cannot wait to see what more she can achieve 🥰

A huge shout out to my all my beautiful women who joined the challenge too. You’ve all achieved your own wins during the process 🏆💕🤗

If you’re worried about going overboard, or already experiencing guilt around your social plans and weekends this festive season, read on 💫

SAVE for later ❤️

Here are a few ways you can avoid going way overboard:

🍸When choosing drinks, be aware of the calories in them. Cocktails tend to have the most calories due to the sugary ingredients. Wine can also rack up when you have large glasses. The lighter options to go for are; Gin & Tonic or Vodka & diet mixers 😇

🚗 If you are on the fence about drinking then drive to the party instead. It’s an easy way to not drink and not be out all night 🙃
You also save money 😊💷

💧Stay hydrated. You will eat less and also feel so much better for keeping on top of your water intake ☺️ Less of a hangover too 😉

🍫 Avoid going to a party hungry. Make sure you’ve had something to eat before if it’s just a drinks and nibbles might. Better to have a balanced meal than end up binging on nibbles because you’re so hungry!

💃🏼 Play games that get you moving and active. Choose games with the family that involve you doing an activity rather than sitting for long periods at a time.

🏃🏼‍♀️Get your steps in 💪🏻 boosting your activity will help balance out extra calories and will boost your mood too. Getting outside as much as you can, will benefit you a lot ☺️

🧀 Share leftover party food with food shelters or people who need it more. Don’t just eat it for the sake of it as it’s still in the house.

My overall advice around this time is to enjoy yourself! Just stay mindful and remember, don’t beat yourself up if you do indulge! Food isn’t to be earned. It is to fuel your body ❤️

Just a quick one from me ☺️✨

December has been full on so far! I love being busy and having social plans but fitting in training is tough at times! Especially running a business and working long hours but I wouldn’t change it for the world as I love what I get to do ❤️

At the moment I haven’t been 100% on workouts or my diet but I’ve made sure I keep a balanced mindset and focus on healthy decisions as much as possible between the treats, extra drinks and late nights!

You don’t have to be perfect…
If you can’t fit in 4 workouts, do 2-3…
If you can’t meal prep the whole week, that’s ok!
If you have that extra cake with coffee, don’t stress about it! Focus on your next healthy meal 💚

Be ok with balance & ditch the all or nothing mindset…

Don’t miss out on making memories this month 🫶 No matter what goal you have, you don’t have to go without!

This time of year comes and goes so quickly.. life is for living not restricting too much.

In December I focus on being having my routine in the week, eating nutritious foods and fitting in whatever workouts I can (usually 2-3 a week this time of year) then at the weekend I relax and enjoy myself! I won’t be saying no to treats at Christmas markets or dinners out! I focus on finding a balance ⚖️
