Your dentist will recommend how often you should be booking your check ups. Neglecting these visits or cancelling appointments may have consequences, and rather than just needing a check up, you may require more extensive treatment next time.

Brushing your teeth is part of your daily routine, but what about flossing? 🫧

Brushing your teeth twice a day is a great way to prevent the build-up of plaque and disease, however, some toothbrushes simply cannot reach the small areas in between your teeth and gums.

Did you know, approximately 40% of your teeth surfaces are 𝐛𝐞𝐭𝐰𝐞𝐞𝐧 your teeth?

Flossing between your teeth prevents morsels of food from becoming lodged, which may lead to bacteria forming and cavities emerging. Once decay has formed, you will be more prone to abscesses and infections, which may lead to further problems.

𝐒𝐨, 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐨 𝐈 𝐝𝐨 𝐢𝐭?

Flossing is a technique where you clean and remove food that is stuck between your teeth, using dental floss. To do this, you need to hold the floss between your thumb and finger and then gently slide it between each tooth, gliding it up and down. Be gentle – it's important not to floss too vigorously as this may cut your gums. You will need around 18 to 24 inches of the cord, to floss each tooth with a new section. This ensures that your technique is sanitary, and you are not merely transferring bacteria from one tooth to another. You should be flossing everyday before brushing your teeth.

Flossing should not be painful, however, if you are not used to it, you may feel some discomfort when you start. You may notice some bleeding or soreness in your gums – but don’t worry – as you continue to floss every day, your gums will get used to it and will stop bleeding. If the bleeding doesn’t stop, contact your dentist.

Congratulations and well done to Team UK in the Colosseum Dental Alpe D’Huez challenge! 🎉

Last Sunday, 30th June 2024, our fantastic UK Bike4Good ambassadors, Ahmed Mahammed, Brett Pagden, Jason Rassell, Jaspreet Kaur Lall and Jessica Tasker, made up part of the group of 60 colleagues from across the Colosseum Dental group to cycle the formidable Alpe d'Huez in France. This route, known as the pinnacle of the famous Tour de France race, features 21 hairpin bends, a 6,100-foot elevation gain, and an average gradient of 8%. This was no easy feat - but our team tackled it with unwavering determination and spirit.

The event was more than just a physical challenge; it was a celebration of unity and camaraderie! By bringing together colleagues from different corners of Europe, the challenge showcased the teamwork and resilience of our incredible colleagues across Colosseum Dental. As our ambassadors pushed through the gruelling 14-kilometer ascent, they did so not just as individuals, but as a unified Colosseum Dental family.

The Bike4Good initiative aims to combine physical fitness with community spirit, and this main event epitomised that goal. Our colleagues encouraged each other, shared stories, and built lasting memories, strengthening the bonds that tie the Colosseum Dental network together. The sense of accomplishment at the summit was a testament to their collective effort over the past 6 months, and the resounding power of teamwork!

Events such as this challenge highlight the essence of Colosseum Dental’s ethos of collaboration and care. Whether in our practices or cycling an infamous mountainside - working together allows us to achieve remarkable things. The Alpe D’Huez challenge proved that, as a team, we can conquer even the most daunting of obstacles.

This week, we're celebrating one of our amazing colleagues at Colosseum Dental UK – Dr Javeria Anwar, Associate at Cambourne Dental Clinic in Cambridgeshire.

Dr Javeria began her career in Pakistan, moved through the UAE and Qatar, and now practices in the UK. Starting as an internationally qualified dentist, Dr Javeria has embraced the unique dental practices of each place she's worked. Now in the UK, she serves as a Dental Hygienist/Therapist, dental assessor, and dental auditor, all while advancing patient care and dental practices.

At Colosseum Dental UK, reminding our colleagues of the importance of looking after our mental health is not just a token gesture; it's ingrained in our culture. This is demonstrated by our dedicated team of mental health first aiders, who have been professionally trained to spot the signs of poor mental health, the confidence to start a conversation and the knowledge to signpost to appropriate support.

Currently, we have 11 trained mental health fist aiders and we’re in the processes of organising training for more volunteers, to ensure that we’re increasing our focus on having accessible mental health support for whoever needs it. Our MHFAs are advocates, listeners, and non-judgemental pillars of support for our team members.

Alongside this, we offer 24/7 access to an Assistance Programme for both our employed and self-employed colleagues, so that everyone, regardless of their role at CDUK, has access to advice provided by their in-house counsellors, legal and financial specialists.
