Vintage Get Cutie was born after a few months of lockdown. We were overwhelmed at the amount of customers getting involved asking advice for re-selling Get Cutie garments as they were in perfect condition but not fitting ever-changing bodies anymore! The platform was launched and it’s been a roaring success ever since, we love hearing the stories about adventures dresses have had and then re-homing for more love! We pay for each return in credit, so you can exchange your old for new! Get Cutie is build to LAST 💕✨💕✨💕

Our little family business of Get Cutie started when I (Izzy) was about 3 years old, born out of necessity and evolving as my Mum (Fi) needed a job that she could take me with her to. She started by renting a rail in 33 Kensington Gardens to re-sell vintage clothes and my early childhood revolved around visiting car boots, jumble sales and trips to amazing warehouses in the middle of nowhere to help hand select gems hidden in humungous piles of pre-loved clothes. The rail quickly turned in to the whole basement, which then spurred Mum on to start designing her own prints and slogans to adorn jersey hot pants, sweat shirts and tees. The whole operation turned in to a bit of a roaring success and soon the whole shop turned in to Get Cutie - Mum's love of textiles and prints taking over and the introduction of printed cotton turned in to the brand that started to resemble what we all know and love it to be now.

I loved spending time in the shop, and my first job would be to dust the shelves and sweep the floors with payment of penny sweets from Caramella down the road (very fair terms, I felt at the time). As soon as I could I'd start doing Saturday and after school shifts and absolutely loved the buzz of Kensington Gardens, it was a VIBE. At some point during my teenage years we turned downstairs in to THE BARGAIN BASEMENT and I'd love hearing excited squeals of customers finding something great and unexpected. So there is the backstory of why I've just created a VIRTUAL BARGAIN BASEMENT

We'll send everything out as soon as it's sold in the hope to get it to you for Christmas... I hope you find some gems!

Heartbroken to hear the news this morning. James has been in our lives for years, he gave me my first ever David Bowie album and taught me that if you play Iggy Pop it really does need to be at full volume. He’d pop behind the serving counter and request to watch Betty Page videos and his favourite Morecambe and Wise sketches on Youtube. At one point we had a whole WALL of photos of James as we started taking polaroids of our favourite outfits (there were lots), he seems pretty nonchalant about our shrine and then started to encourage the collection by bringing in his own favourite photos. ⁣

This photo was taken a couple of years ago when I bumped in to him in Soho. I couldn’t believe it - North Laine James IN SOHO? It seemed so out of place, but he greeted me the same as he would any other day in the shop - a nod and straight to the point with excitement about his newest purchase (in this case, the very wonderful flowery hat you see pictured). ⁣

At the beginning of the year we offered what we said at the time would be 'the biggest sale we have ever done, and will ever do'. We genuinely believed it at the time - our brand is one that focuses on slow, well-made, hand crafted garments. We're a small team, we make everything in-house and locally - costs are high and we'd always focus on quality over quantity. This is still the case, and will always be the case... BUT we ARE doing another sale, and it's even bigger, and that's because we are moving... AGAIN!

You're skint, we're skint. We need to protect our little business and the people in and around it, so we're moving out of the studio to reduce our overheads (we are in a lucky position where we can all work from home), and it's a natural time for change in the business as our core team is having a bit of a shake up (some of us are going to travel the world, some of us are stepping up to have bigger and better roles in the company because they are amazing and will THRIVE at the challenge, some of us ((me, Izzy)) need to take a little step away from the day to day running of things so I can still get excited about Get Cutie whilst also be able to think about maybe one day getting a mortgage and grown up things like that).

This is NOT the end of Get Cutie, we're investing in ways that we can make it better (new website coming soon!) and we still love it with all of our heart and soul. We're doing this to protect the business rather than end it.

We put this shirt in the post today and cannot begin to tell you the joy that came with doing so! You see, this was a VERY special shirt which has been an absolute honour to make for a lovely guy who wanted it as a memorial piece for his Mum (her favourite dress was in this fabric).⁣

We knew that it was going to be a bit of a task finding the (previously best-selling!) fabric as it had been discontinued a few years ago. But it was a challenge worth taking on and one we were confident that we could make work by getting a bit creative. We did a shout out on to see if anyone had any garments in the green jackdaws that were currently sitting unloved that we could maybe use to repurpose. An immediate WIN came with a someone getting in touch to say they still had a metre that they had bought from us 10 years ago, the planned project they had planned for it never happening. Another dress and a skirt came back that we used every last inch of to make the shirt. ⁣

By this point a friend of the family had heard about the order and loved the idea so requested the same - we got to work hunting down the fabric again though this time was a lot more difficult. EBay was scoured; Vinted was perused regularly; was holding out hope and shouting out as much as possible. Days turned in to weeks turned in to months and it was a constant dream to get the material to get it finished. ⁣

Bit by bit we got enough to make this special (second) shirt and the finished product has made us a bit emotional! We’re honoured to make such special pieces and we’ve been reminded that sometimes the seemingly impossible is possible with a bit of perseverance.
