I'm already thinking about next year's show.......
Engineering Design Show (EDS)
Day 2 - The top priority was hot coffee this time, so the key purchase was a flask. Another perfect evening, carrying the 15kg camera box up four flights of stairs dam near killed me, but I recovered enough to remember to press record. The IR images shown shown the flight paths of detected movement. I know it was bats but it is after all just a camera not a bat detetctor.
I have 20 80Gig files to work through so I'll post updted and screen shots soon
I'm just testing my SW camera for an application looking at plant health. Thought the images looked particularly nice.
Well, last night's filming went very well. I need to find time to process some great action from the bats. Here are some images of my setup (I need to improve on the cold coffee)... Filming started at 8 pm and finished a little after 10 pm with the filming recorded in 20min batches throughout the session. And that is still 80 gigs per recording!!!!!. Time to get ready for tonight, and I'll start processing images over the weekend.
Thanks to Joshua Butterworth for helping out with the session.

We will be exhibiting onsite at the event hosted by
Porton Down in Wiltshire is home to two British Government facilities – the MOD’s Defence Science & Technology Laboratory (DSTL) and the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) alongside Porton Biopharma Ltd which is co-located with the UKHSA. It is also the location of the Porton Science Park which was established in 2018 to develop into a major centre of excellence in Life Sciences, Biotechnology and Defence Technologies.
Some prep time this morning before I set off to film bats tonight. Using my Teledyne FLIR X8500 1280 x 1020 resolution with a Coaxpress highspeed interface to capture 180Hz for about 2hr - Yes 4TB drive should hold all the data ( I hope ).
The faithful Jackery powering all easily - just need to prepare sandwiches and coffee, then all done. I'll post images and examples of the data captured over the next few days.
The FLIR X6980 is an extraordinarily fast midwave IR camera designed for scientists and engineers who need to capture high-speed imagery for accurate thermal analysis and custom radiometric measurements. This thermal imaging camera combines 640 × 512 resolution with blazing-fast frame rates, allowing researchers to record stop motion on fast-moving subjects or rapid temperature changes—whether in the lab or on the test range. With a four-position motorized filter wheel and support for FLIR motorized focus lenses, the X6980 will provide higher quality recordings, save time, and mitigate frustration in dynamic acquisition environments.

Ever wondered why humans appear vibrant and healthy to IR cameras? The secret lies in the fact that IR cameras detect heat, not temperature, and humans leak heat. We decode the energy captured by the sensor into temperature using a magical number called Emissivity.
