This is a delightful, innovative picture book aimed at pre-school children aged 3-5 years of age.
This story follows the adventures of Oopsie. Oops are fairy-tale creatures that live in the wild and bring things to life. Oopsie is a clumsy little Oop who takes a journey to the human world to play but causes an enormous mess.
The book aims to inspire young children to be whatever they want to be and not to worry about those ‘Oopsie’ moments; it enthuses that “every little Oop is good at something and there are so many things in the world to try!”
I was initially drawn to the book by the brightly coloured illustrations which bring the story to life. They are emotive and have movement with vibrant colours and lots of detail which really catch the eye and tell the story very well. There are pictures and captivating graphics on each page which are both colourful and instructive. The book is both educational and captivating in its content and appearance.
Using a playful tale the author demonstrates the importance of self-awareness and emphasises the importance of being oneself and whatever a person wants to be. The message is told in a very creative way with beautiful illustrations and a clear message of the importance of being true to oneself.
The book’s compact size makes it manageable for a child with small hands to hold. Plus, it has easy to slide pages which make it easier for small hands eagerly wanting to turn over to the next part of the story to handle. An added bonus is the wipe-clean front and back covers, ideal for parents reading the story to children with sticky fingers.
With a feel-good ending, which brings the story to a satisfying conclusion there are several messages which are slanted to teach children about self-esteem and confidence in an entertaining way.
The book is beautifully complemented with Illustrations by Cuppatwo.
