Breakfalls, throws, kata and this little movement drill in last night's beginners class. It was hot, but they brought the kick ass attitude anyway ππ₯π
Quiet night in the dojo yesterday - we focused on kata and kumite drills, then finished off with a tricky new kick combination on the paddle. Awesome first attempt at this! Hope everyone that is off on holiday at the moment is having fun, looking forward to seeing you back in the dojo soon π

Great to be back in class last night after a couple of weeks off π
We got our 80's groove on to warm up, with some simple martial arts moves set to music.
Next we slowed things down a little to learn about 'Taisabaki' or body movement. Working on moving with the right timing, distance and angle to evade a strike whilst setting up your own counter strike. It gets the brain working as well as the body!
We finished off the class with some kata work (a sequence of moves practised individually), followed by a mad rush to put the mats away because we were having fun and lost track of the time π€£

Throwback Thursday - the shiny things that live in a box in the attic π
People often ask if I miss competition and the answer is a resounding NO! I'm proud of what I achieved but I don't miss the pressure or the stress. It taught me so much about what I'm capable of though, I travelled the World and met some incredible people so I will always enjoy the memories π
The framed medals are my World Championship Golds π₯ the last of which I won in 2016 at which point I retired from competing. The glass trophies are Sportsperson or Coach of the year awards for Hampshire and the loose medals are from National and International events.
One of my favourites .... The black one at the back on the right was from the first competition I entered back in 1993 π₯π

Object of the game ... You have 1 minute to get as many tags as you can and don't lose your own. Winner is the person with the most tags at the end of the game. Lots of laughs whilst building awareness skills π We also worked on working through the core to develop balance and power in techniques π₯

Walking the dog was a good test of my balance this morning! Happy to report no breakfalls required π
Last night we worked on fitness and agility, maintaining strength and stability when turning, worked through kata keeping the focus on the turns, a circuit including pad work, kick shields and boxing sticks and even a little breakfall training.
