We are a student-run society aiming to give our members the best opportunity to make the most of their time on the engineering design course by building lasting connections across the years and widening their engineering knowledge.

We hope you’ve had a lovely summer and are ready to slide back into the new year. Join us from 1pm on Sunday 8th of September at the Downs for the annual Eng Des Slip n’ Slide 🏄♂️
What to expect:
🛝 A slippery, soapy tarpaulin to slide down
🍕 Snacks and food provided by the society
🌞 A much needed, post-summer catch up with friends in the sun
There will be no drinks provided but feel more than happy to bring your own 🍻

This week's talk may seem a bit familiar and it is all about international development engineering! Frances graduated from Eng Des in 2020 and now works for the Smart Villages Research Group. Her talk focuses on water and energy projects in international development.

This week's talk is by Enrico Varano, a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Zurich, machine learning engineer and data scientist! Enrico will run through his diverse career path and share some of the lessons he has learned along the way!

Join us this Sunday! As part of Strava month we will be cycling to Bath. We will be starting at 11am from castle park and cycling along cycle paths, the journey is around 20km and people will have the option of getting the train back to Bristol. Send us a message if you have any questions!
This Saturday we're heading out to meet up with Paul for a hike around the scenic Wye Valley! This is part of our Strava month activities and all ticket proceeds go towards Mind, the mental health charity.

Next Tuesday's talk will be delivered by Bethan Charles, lecturer in renewable energy at the University of Bristol. This talk will focus on the forgotten women engineers of history including the "mother of the greenhouse effect" and the women missing from the Oppenheimer film.

Applications must:
- Be from University of Bristol students, submitted by the individual student, not on their behalf
- Apply for funding to enable their participation in a Bristol SU student group e.g. membership fees, trip costs or the purchase of equipment or kit specifically required for the activity
- Show evidence of financial hardship and being unable to participate without the assistance of the Activity Hardship Fund
