Bristol Morris Men
Always eager to welcome new dancers and musicians! Come along and join us Thursday nights... Cotswold Morris Dance Group
We are dancing at Queen Charlton (near Keynsham) on Saturday (10th June). It starts at 2:00pm and we will be there throughout the afternoon.
Last Saturday (2nd April) we had our Martin Egan Memorial Tour. Martin was one of the first victims to COVID-19 and so this was the first time we were able to celebrate his life. He was a bus driver with FirstBus in Bristol and, when the company named one of their new gas buses after him, we felt it was fitting to ask the company if we could use it for a tour. Not only did FirstBus say "yes", but they also supplied a driver (Brod Gilbert) for the day.
BMM would like to thank Mark Ford of FirstBus, along with the Marketing team (for the posters). the Maintenance team (for making the bus squeaky clean), JBP (for the great media coverage) and not forgetting Brod Gilbert of FirstBus, our splendid chauffeur for the day. Thanks also go to Grant Glanville our squire and Fred Giltrow-Tyler for organising the day.
The money we collected was in aid of St Peter's Hospice and this came to £475 plus 10 US dollars, 5 Australian cents and an old penny. Thank yous must go to the marvelous collectors.
Photo thanks to Andrew Futter.
Thank you to all those that turned up to watch us yesterday. I'm sure that there were more of you than in previous years. The good weather helped. It was great to be back performing in the open air.
Hope to see you in 2022 when it will be the 200th anniversary of the play's collection.
If you are free on Boxing Day morning pop along to Keynsham to see the Keynsham Mummers Play. The play was collected in the town/village 199 years ago and has been performed every year since 1977 by the Bristol Morris Men. There will be three outdoor performances: 11 o’clock outside St. John’s Church, 11.30 at the Civic Centre and 12 o’clock outside the New Inn. If you fancy a beer and a bit of culture on 26th December, come along.
The next practice will be on 11th November 2021. Please have a negative lateral flow test before you come.
Sorry to say that our first practice has been postponed. We will let you know when the next practice is later.
Our first indoor practice since last year will be on 28th October starting at 8:15pm in the gym of QEH school (see website for directions www.bristolmorrismen.co.uk. If you want to join us contact our bagman and just turn up. If you need a lift we contact us and we will see what we can do. Please have a negative lateral flow test before you come.
On 11th September many current and ex members of Bristol Morris are taking part in the St Peter’s Hospice charity walk (or in our case morris processional) to raise money in memory of our dear friend and BMM stalwart Paul Woods who passed away ten years ago. Please feel free to donate to this very worthwhile charity.

It is with great sadness that I have to announce the passing of our good friend, dance colleague and Bristol Morris Bagman Cliff Woolley. Everyone who ever came into contact with Cliff knew what a truly genuine, friendly and nice bloke he was. He will be sorely missed, not only by the morris side but also by the local folk scene. Our thoughts are with his wife Gaynor and his three sons.
