Announcing Tamsin Elliott as support for Owen Spafford and Louis Campbell, next Sunday, 13th October!
“A new British talent” - The Guardian
Tamsin is a multi-instrumentalist, composer and film-maker based in Bristol, UK. With roots in the folk music of England and Ireland, her interests and playing styles extend to European and Middle Eastern musics as well as experimental and ambient sounds. Her critically acclaimed debut solo album ‘FREY’, which features the playing of Sid Goldsmith and Rowan Rheingans, is out now on Penny Fiddle Records. In this work, which comprises compositions for accordion, harp, whistle and voice, Tamsin explores themes of limbo, pain, healing and acceptance, reflecting on the microcosm of her personal experience of chronic illness alongside wider themes of societal disconnection and environmental grief.
“Tamsin Elliott’s debut album, FREY, is, in a word, sublime. Few albums this year have taken us on such a magical journey” - Tradfolk

Eartrumpet Music Presents: HENGE + Tirikilatops. Family Matinee and evening show at Trinity.
Attention Humans! This is HENGE.
We are not from this world.
We bring you music from distant planets.
We offer this gift for the edification of humankind… so that eventually your species may put an end to war and set up new homes in space.
Extra-terrestrial joymongers - HENGE - have been delighting audiences in the UK and Europe since they landed on Planet Earth nine years ago. Their scintillating live performances earned them ‘Best Live Act’ at the Independent Festival Awards and they have since cemented their reputation with three acclaimed albums, numerous tours and regular main-stage festival appearances.
Their music escapes definition, but occupies a space between rave and prog rock that nobody knew existed. It is energetic, subversive and invigoratingly playful, jovially breaking new ground. Ultimately, these intrepid creatures are spreading a message of hope which leaves audiences feeling amused and uplifted in equal measures.
They are supported by Tirikilatops - a collaboration between UK and S. Korean artists and musicians located in the UK. A combination of kimchi beats, pop sensibilities, offbeat lyrics, dayglo colours, hacked keyboards, dada attitudes, forteana and super earworm melodies.

📣 NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣
🎶 Get The Blessing
🏛️ Strange Brew
📆 21.09.24
Formed in 1999 by bassist Jim Barr and drummer Clive Deamer, best known as the rhythm section of seminal act Portishead, award-winning Bristolian jazz-rock disruptors ‘Get The Blessing’ are proud to present their seventh studio album. ‘Pallet’ which was released on October 20th.
Like most artists around the world, the pandemic forced the ensemble to rethink their creative processes. Born from a series of improvisations between Barr, Pete Judge on trumpet and Jake McMurchie on saxophone, the trio built up a rough portfolio of recordings which they then sent to Deamer, who added his drum parts at home in Oxfordshire. The result is nine minimalist compositions driven by groove, texture, electronics and spontaneity.
Built around the hypnotic loops that have become synonymous with their sound, Pallet is an exploration of the nexus of improvisation and modern production. Grounded by thick, punchy basslines and playful drum grooves, the record creates deep sonic spaces through the use of dizzying delays, squelching filtered loops, and trails.
The album’s title owes much to the obtuse punning jazz musicians have enjoyed since the 50’s; the song titles conjure up an imaginary color chart with which the listener can fill in the paint-by-numbers image of a wooden pallet on the cover art.
For over two decades Get The Blessing have been growing their truly international fanbase, touring across the world in the UK, USA, Canada, Dubai, Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Macedonia, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, The Netherlands, Turkey, and Ukraine.

He is a musician with wide-open horizons and insatiable curiosity for new possibilities. As evidenced on his latest album, The Reverie Road (Penny Fiddle Records), Kenney’s songwriting is both adventurous and earth-bound, with his high lonesome voice exploring sun-drenched Italian vistas, dream worlds, and sounds of the city.

🎶 Martin Simpson
🏛️ Bristol Folk House
📆 01.11.24
“One of the virtuoso instrumentalists of the English music scene... sounds better than ever” **** The Guardian
One of England’s most revered folk performers, widely acknowledged as one of the finest acoustic and slide guitar players in the world, Martin’s interpretations of traditional songs are masterpieces of storytelling. His remarkable solo shows are intense, eclectic, spellbinding, and deeply moving. Always prolific, and never one to rest long without a guitar in his hands and a song in his head, Martin Simpson continues to travel the length and breadth of the UK and beyond giving rapt audiences passion, sorrow, love, beauty, tragedy, and majesty through his remarkable intimate solo performances. Martin has been nominated an astounding 32 times in the 18 years of the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards - more than any other performer - and has won numerous awards.
Martin’s new solo album, Skydancers, will be released in April 2024 on Topic Records. The album is a twin release featuring a live CD recorded on recent gigs and a studio CD including some of Martin’s absolutely favourite musicians. Last year’s album with Nashville’s Thomm Jutz, Nothing But Green Willow: The Songs Of Mary Sands And Jane Gentry, received superlative reviews from both sides of the Atlantic. “Drizzling with Simpson’s shining guitars” The Guardian “A record of rare power and significance” 9/10 Guitarist
A virtuoso player without question, but above all Martin Simpson conveys his diverse treasure trove of material from the heart, performing with rare subtlety, intensity, and honesty. A true master of his art.

📣 NEW SHOW ANNOUNCEMENT! 📣
🎶 Rachel Baiman [Seated show]
🏛️ Strange Brew
📆 09.10.24
Raised in Chicago, Baiman made her way to Nashville at 18 with the dream of being a professional fiddle player and has since released two solo records and an EP, alongside session and side-person work with Kacey Musgraves, Kevin Morby, and Molly Tuttle among many others. Since her first solo release in 2017 she’s carved out a niche as an increasingly important, distinctive, and political solo artist. Her latest self-produced album, Common Nation Of Sorrow, is arguably her finest to date. It’s certainly her most outspoken and hard-hitting, exploring the underbelly of American capitalism, and the individual and communal devastation it manifests, particularly on her own generation. It’s a tribute to her ability as a writer, singer, and producer that it does so to such powerfully moving effect.
“With her expressive and finely weathered voice, she weaves traditional bluegrass and folk threads through plights big and small, injustices, and generational trauma” - No Depression
“Rachel Baiman’s emotionally raw, plaintive vocals create an exquisite, expansive soundscape that allows her lyrics to permeate our souls, calling us to consider the delicate balance of the human condition, to mourn it, to celebrate it.” - Folk Alley

🎶 Owen Spafford and Louis Campbell
🏛️ Bristol Folk House
📆 13.10.24
Owen Spafford and Louis Campbell met as teenagers, as part of the first cohort of the National Youth Folk Ensemble. Since forming their duo in 2018, they have: supported Martin Hayes (at EartH, London and Band on the Wall, Manchester) and Mammal Hands (at the Barbican, London); been nominated for the BBC Young Folk Award; released their critically acclaimed debut album, ‘You, Golden’ with five star reviews and had national airplay on BBC Radio 2,3,4 and 6 alongside RTE1 in Ireland and BBC Scotland. Their EP ‘102 Metres East’ was released on Peter Gabriel’s Real World X in March 2024.
As their music has developed, the duo have drifted away from the expectations of an English folk fiddle and guitar duo, with dynamic range, atmosphere and intimacy becoming more present in their own compositions, re-examining what it means to be ‘authentic’ as two modern English folk musicians.
