Cotham School defies community and Council
Readers will be aware that Stoke Lodge Playing Fields were officially registered as a village green on 22nd August. Cllr John Goulandris comments :
‘’After many years of debate and campaigning by the community, the Council’s Public Rights of Way Committee voted decisively - by 6 votes to 1 - to register this lovely green space as a village green, thus giving it protection from any future development. That, frankly, should be the end of the matter and I would expect all parties to respect this decision. The decision does not stop the playing fields being used for school sport, but obviously the ugly fence has to come down.”
Unfortunately, Cotham School has decided not to accept the democratic decision of the Council’s Committee and instead has indicated that it will seek to overturn the decision via the courts. Cllr Henry Michallat states :
“I think it’s disgraceful that Cotham School has chosen to use tax payer money to fund costly and unnecessary litigation, when this money would be so much better spent on their pupils’ education. What an appalling example the school is setting to its students. I would urge Cotham School’s headteacher and its governors to think again and prioritise their pupils’ needs”
Many schools in the past have used the playing fields without a fence. Let’s hope Cotham School finally sees sense, removes the fence and stops the unnecessary legal action.

HOLLY HEDGE CHRISTMAS SHOEBOX APPEAL🎁
It’s just two months until Christmas Eve! 🎅
Our animals here at the sanctuary hope they’ll be tucked up in a warm and cosy bed waiting for Santa Paws in their forever homes. But sadly we know each Christmas the sanctuary will be full with animals without a family of their own.
However, you can help make Christmas special for our animals. Receiving a shoebox brings so much joy and ensures each animal has a present on Christmas Day. If you would like to get involved and make Jaxon and his friends smile, here’s how you can help…
What to do: 📦
Find an old shoebox. Fill it with food, treats and toys suitable for either a dog or cat (see below for ideas). Label the box ‘Dog’ or ‘Cat’ Take it to one of our collection points (see below for info)
What to include: 🦴🎾
Our animals would love any of the following items.
Tubes of Primula cheese or liver paste.
Natural chews (no rawhide please).
Dogs - Forthglade trays / Butchers tins (grain free) (no dry food please).
Cats - Whiskas, Felix, Applaws, Natures Diet (no dry food please).
Toys, especially heavy duty toys (no toys with plastic eyes that may come off).
Enrichment items like kongs or lickimats.
Lots of treats!! Preferably grain free ones.
Poo bags!
