Why are scratching posts so important?
First of all you need to ask the question 'why do cats scratch?
The act of scratching is a perfectly normal and instinctive behaviour that all cats need to perform. Firstly,, because they need to keep their claws in good condition. Secondly, they use scratching as a way of communicating with other cats. They have scent glands between the pads on their paws which produces a smell that remains on the area that is scratched. Both the scratch, any bits of claw, and the scent inevitably leaves a kind of calling card for other cats as well as a reminder to itself in the area. Lack of scratching posts, particularly for indoor cats can lead to all sorts of problems including scratched, ruined furnishings, inappropriate elimination and conflict between cats in a multi-cat household.

Wow! Some amazing transformations using environmental enrichment. After meeting with myself I gave the family of these wonderful cats some advice regarding environmental enrichment for their indoor cats. They had already 'cat proofed' their back garden, enabling their cats to go outside but then added a 'catio' to the front to allow access there too. They had issues with some aggression from one cat to another. What you see in the pictures is a new provision of plenty of spaces and places for cats to be, allowing for each one to have it's own personal place. They have seen a dramatic decline in both inappropriate elimination and conflict between cats.

LOOK AT THEIR LITTLE FACES 😱😍
Dog to dog aggression seems to be increasing. There are many different reasons of course but given the rise in dog ownership over the last few years, it would seem that there may be a link. See the Guardian's report for interesting reading 'Dog-bite Britain: the problem with the pandemic puppy explosion If you have a problem with dog reactivity then give me a call.
Though dogs look like they are smiling, it is really just a muscular state.
I absolutely love this. We need one here
