We are proud to share that once again we have receive planning permission for a two storey and single storey rear extension for a property in Broadstairs.
The Project is now in tender stage and the works are due to begin soon.
We are proud to share that we have recently been granted Full Planning permission for the er****on of 2 one and a half storey 3-bed semi-detached dwellings with associated parking at Stanley Road, St Peters, Broadstairs.
No. 12 and 12A Marine Gardens Margate Kent, a Grade II Listed Building in a Conservation Area, underwent a complete renovation to preserve its heritage assets.
The proposed development included a basement level, six flats, and two shops. The design process was meticulous to preserve the structure's integrity and comply with current Building Regulations.
The renovation also involved repairing old mortar, restoring timber sash windows, and installing smoke vents and restoring to slate tiles.
The roof structure was also repaired, and original interior features like architraves, door surrounds, skirting, and wainscoting were redecorated.
Balconies on the first floor were renovated to match the original parts, and traditional shop fronts were replaced with timber and toughened glass.
It has been a rewarding challenge to be part of the project team, contributing to the preservation of Margate's heritage.
We were appointed by Thanet District Council Technical Services as the planning agent to obtain planning permission to make renovations to the pier in Viking Bay, built in 1772, as well as the concrete sea defence barriers at Broadstairs Harbour, erected in 1963. Considering sea level rise, the project incorporates new flood gates, drainage, and surface regrading to prevent the area from flooding.
We were able to successfully show that the proposed works will blend in with the surrounding area and that the scheme is an ideal combination of minimum disruptive work and the greater advantage of ensuring flood defences that is reliable for at least a century. In June 2023, planning permission was successfully granted.
For the last post of the Hawley square series, we share some before and after photos: it has been a pleasure to work from planning to completion to bring back to life the former Buttifants Temperance Hotel and we hope that the future owner of the flats are going to enjoy its spaces as much as weβve enjoyed to design them.
For this 3rd post of the Hawley Square series, we share images of the finished project.
The layout was developed in respectfully towards its historical surroundings.
One of the main design considerations has been retaining the original front façade, including storey heights, window positions and main entrance position. This naturally led to an internal spatial arrangement of the reconstructed building containing two flats per floor giving them dual aspect, on the front and the rear of the building.
The flats have been completed with crisp finishes that contribute to enhance the internal spaces created.
This week we want to share a bit of the story of the site at 49-50 Hawley square in Margate.
The former Buttifants Temperance Hotel has changed use many times through the years, from club to offices and residential accommodation. It used to be a Grade II Listed Building until a disastrous fire destroyed it from the inside, leaving as little as the main Hawley square façade in structurally sound conditions.
After being vacant for years, Urban Surveying and Design was appointed to carry out the design and the planning for the construction of four storey building containing 9no. self-contained flats, and it obtained permission in June 2017. Urban Surveying & Design was appointed to carry out the detailed design, knowing that the task at hand would have been a hefty one, judging by the existing conditions of the dilapidated building.
The conditions of the building became clearer once the construction phase started on site.
We are proud to share that our design at 49-50 Hawley square in Margate, a former Grade II Listed Building, has been awarded the 'Highly Commended' Certificate 'in recognition of innovative, sensitive and eye-catching design, making a major contribution to the regeneration of Margate' , at the Margate Civic Society Town Pride Award organised by Margate Civic Society.
With this marvellous, news we decided to share the journey of this project, starting the Hawley square series.
Watch this space to see how a building rises from the ashes to an awarding winning design of façade retention and demolition to an amazing contemporary apartment development within the historic Hawley Square street scene.
Special thanks to the Margate Civic Society, for organising the event and to Sally Whitworth who took the photo of our Scott Rigden and the Margate Civic Society's Chair Pamela Pople.
We are proud to have been part of the design and ex*****on of these two contemporary, luxurious detached dwellings with three bedrooms with private parking spaces and gardens that are part of the development at 1 Fair Street in Broadstairs.
There is a large, open concept living, kitchen, and dining room on the ground floor. The ground floor section also has a utility room and cloakroom. There are three bedrooms and a family bathroom on the first level with an en-suite built into one of the bedrooms.
These homes have been thoughtfully created in terms of both form and function.
The key characteristic of this development is a balance between site setting and contemporary design. The plus point is the proximity to outstanding schools and Broadstairs town Centre.
