Great tips for DOMS 😎πŸ’ͺ

The steps we take to recover post-exercise are just as crucial to our fitness and progress.

Here are some tips from personal trainer Hannah Smith

β€’Give yourself time to rest. If you exercise too close to previous sessions, you not only increase your risk of injury, but you inhibit the potential for your muscle fibres to grow back stronger.
β€’Drink water. We lose a lot of fluid through exercise; therefore, it is important to replace these fluids by drinking more water.
β€’Eat a healthy, well-balanced meal - don't forget the protein.
β€’Remember to stretch and foam roll. Alternatively, book yourself in for a sports massage to help reduce inflammation and reduce recovery time.
β€’Get more sleep. Sleep is the time that muscle recovery peaks. Aim for 7-9 hours each night. If you struggle with this, consider adding naps throughout the day.

How do you recover after a workout? Share your tips below!

Some great tips if you're looking to stay on track with your nutrition but also enjoy the Easter weekend without feeling restricted or guilty! Happy Easter! 🐣 🐰

With the long bank holiday weekend just beginning, you might be worrying about how many extra calories you'll consume. With family dinners, Easter eggs, and a bunch of other seasonal goodies on offer it can be hard to say no!

Which is why we say you don't have to! Instead of restricting yourself and feeling miserable watching everybody else tuck into their chocolate, allow yourself to indulge in moderation.

If you are tracking calories you can still build treats into your daily intake so you don't have to deprive yourself. Mindfully adding snacks to your diet this way will also reduce the risk of binge eating which can happen if you're too strict with your diet.

What's your favourite Easter treat?

Don't get injured!

If you want to keep fit over the winter season, make sure you stay injury free. A common mistake people make is skipping warm-ups before a workout - this can cause more injuries than too much lunch-time prosecco...

Warming up pre-workout helps prepare you mentally and physically, and increases your heart rate, blood flow and oxygen supply to the muscles - helping you perform better in the colder months.

It also activates your nervous system, priming the connection between brain and muscles - helping increase your body awareness, move more efficiently and reduce risk of injury. πŸ‘

How do I warm up before exercise?

Start with simple, whole body movements that mimic exercises you are going to do in your workout - and mix up with on the spot cardio drills to get your heart rate up.

Gradually increase pace and intensity until you feel your heart rate increase and your muscles warming up. Try the following:

> Fast-paced side stepping
> Jogging on the spot
> Arm swings
> Side bends
> Lunges
> Squats

Build a routine out of your favourites, and bolt them on before every workout to stay injury free! Maybe best to go easy on the prosecco as well... πŸ˜‰

Anyone else get that hangry feeling? 😫

Hangry Anyone? 😑πŸ₯—

Battling hunger whilst trying to lose body fat can be difficult when you’re in a calorie deficit.

Here are a few tips to keep you feeling fuller for longer, and keep the hanger at bay!

1. Volume Eating; focus on foods that are higher in volume (size) but lower in density (calories).
Try swapping out bagels for rice cakes, pasta for broccoli or chips for a high nutrient mezze salad. More on your plate, packed with nutrients but much fewer calories.

2. Eat more fibre; Adding in high fibre food to your meals help you stay fuller for longer. Focus on whole foods that are naturally high in fibre - like whole-grains, vegetables, oats and fruit.

3. Hydrate; Drinking more water helps fight off hunger, as we often mistake hunger for thirst. Don’t wait to feel thirsty though before drinking water, keep a bottle next to you and sip throughout the day. You should be aiming for 2-3 litres.

Pass the broccoli please! πŸ₯¦

Spare pumpkin anyone? πŸŽƒ

Progressive overload... you mean Pumpkin overload! πŸŽƒ

If you’ve got a surplus of pumpkins this Halloween, why not β€œEat Your Pumpkins” and try out a new pumpkin recipe?

Rich in vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, pumpkin is incredibly healthy.
What's more, its low calorie content makes it a weight-loss-friendly food.
Its nutrients and antioxidants may boost your immune system, protect
your eyesight, lower your risk of certain cancers and promote heart and
skin health.

So why not try out some new winter warmers like soups, curries, sauces
and not forgetting the humble pumpkin pie, using up your scary
pumpkins!

Check out with this Pumpkin and Lentil Soup recipe from BBC Good Food:
