Hey there! I hope you're all well. This is a bit of a long one but I promise it's worth the read! Please note before you start reading that this post is about mental health struggles. If you aren't in a place to read about this, skip this post. The next post about this will be a better read for you 💕

Some of you may know that back in March 2020, I really really struggled with my mental health. I had post natal depression and in the haze of having a 4 month old, a 2 year old and a 4 year old, I didn't realise that's what it was.

I felt like I was failing my family. I wasn't good enough to look after all of these children. I wasn't organised enough to get us all through the day. There were so many things that needed to be done and I couldn't seem to get any of them right. I didn't talk to anyone about it because I couldn't fully see my reality. It got so bad that I didn't want to be here anymore. What was the point? My kids weren't happy, they were always arguing or crying. I couldn't keep up with the house work. Even the dog didn't like my company anymore because I couldn't give him the attention I once could. I couldn't walk him as much as I once could. If I was the problem, surely it would be better if I wasn't here?

I dropped my eldest at nursery (this was just days before we went into the first lockdown) and I started driving home. But I didn't want to go home. There was a tree. If I sped up enough that would solve my problem. One of the girls started crying in the back of the car and the next thing I knew, I was standing in the reception of my GP surgery, girls in tow.

I don't remember driving there. I don't remember parking up and getting the girls into their pushchair. I don't remember walking through town and into the surgery. But, what I do remember, are the words of one kind, understanding, non-judgemental Dr - "hang in there, it's going to get better".

I didn't have to explain myself to her, she just knew. She asked me some questions that I don't remember answering, she helped settle my crying baby and she gave me a hug whilst saying those words - "hang in there, it's going to get better". And she was right.

It took time, patience, medication and talking but it did get better. It has been just over a year since I stopped taking antidepressants and I truly believe that if I hadn't seen that exact Dr at that exact time, I probably wouldn't be here today. Some days are still tough and that's ok. I now know how to get the help I need if I need it.

I am hoping to become a volunteer for Shout - a charity that helps people in crisis via a text messaging service (my application is currently pending 🤞🏽) But I also wanted to try and raise some money for the charity too.

So, I will be donating all of the profits from sales of my "hang in there" t-shirt to Shout! I will link their website in the comments if you wanted to check it out.

If you would like to purchase one they will be available to pre-order in Black, Light Grey or White with a green glitter decal or in Bright Green with a black glitter decal.

They will be available in adult sizes small to 3xl for £22 + p&p (4xl and 5xl may be available in black and white but I would have to check with the supplier before confirming) and kids sizes 3-4y, 5-6y, 7-8y, 9-11y and 12-14y for £16 + p&p

Welcome back to Made By Moonlight - I've been gone a little while but have still been working hard getting new designs and ideas in place.

I don't want to go on about the current economic crisis as we all know just how bad things are at the moment. However, it is one of the reasons MBM disappeared for a while and the reason why I have decided to close the website for now.

Made By Moonlight will be selling through social media channels and also from Etsy (link in bio) for the time being and the range will be much smaller than before for now.

Hopefully, with the help of you lovely lot, I can continue to grow the brand and eventually start offering all of the lovely things that have previously been in the shop.

P.s - Halloween is going up on Etsy today followed shortly by the full A/W and Christmas collections!

So, last night was going to be the night I made a start on putting some 'ready to post' items together. Got everything set up and ready to sew only to find that my main machine is not working 😩 it's got an error code which I can't resolve on my own. There's a couple of bits that my husband is going to take apart tonight to see if it's a quick fix but if not, I'm unfortunately going to be further delayed in re-opening.

In the meantime, I'm designing Christmas! What do you want to see this year? Would you like our slogan sweaters to make a come back?

I'm also going to offer labelling of school uniform and vinyl decals and name tags for water bottles/lunch boxes etc.

I need your help. Are you still buying from small businesses?

I temporarily closed MBM at the start of the year as our house (my work space) was upside down with building work. Our house, including a brand new sewing room has been almost complete for a few months now and I had planned to open back up.

However, I am a massive procrastinator and had the sudden realisation that I had massively neglected my uni work. I have just spent every spare second over the last 6 weeks cramming in an entire year's worth of my degree. It was very stressful and there were many tears but I actually managed to complete with a couple of days to spare!

Now, my dilemma is this. Over these last 6 or so weeks, I have unfortunately seen many small clothing and clothing related businesses close their doors due to the current economical crisis. I can totally understand their reasoning and have toyed with the idea myself. However, I really don't want to completely lose the little business that you have all helped me to create over the last 5 years but I also can't commit to buying in large amounts of fabrics that might not sell - I've made that mistake before.

So, would you like to see us come back? Are you still buying from small businesses?

I have already closed the website as it's an expense I can do without right now so would you prefer us to go back to our old way of ordering via Facebook and receiving an invoice to pay or would you prefer to buy from an Etsy shop or similar?

A couple of quick doodles this evening...I might have got a bit carried away as this isn't even half of them 🙈🥚

I've been a bit quiet on here lately and here's part of the reason why!

We are having some work done at our house so everything is a bit upside down at the moment. You may know that I work from our living room/dining room so when this wall came down and the stairs were ripped out, I had to pack all my bits and bobs away to protect them from the dust & debris. I'm really missing sewing but don't want to risk getting it all out just yet as nobody wants dusty fabric!

Our new staircase is delayed which means most other things are now also delayed but, the good news is, when this is all done and dusted (literally....so much dusting & clean up to do 😩) I will have an actual sewing room!! I've been saying it for years but it's only just now becoming a reality and I can't bloody wait!
