Recycling all nutrients and organic matter back to the soil is the aim of closed loop farming. This helps to preserve the nutrients and carbon levels in the soil and allows farming to be sustainable.

Biomass is becoming an increasingly popular element of closed loop farming, as it is a renewable source of energy that cannot be depleted. As long as there are plants on the planet, then biomass will be available as an energy source. Biomass is critically important given the challenges we face today.

To find out more about our biomass services, call us on 01284 811509, email [email protected] or go to our website, https://ojneilcontracting.co.uk/ today.

The nation that destroys its soil, destroys itself.

At the moment, the agricultural sector is one of the biggest emitters of CO2 and is a major contributor to the dramatic changes we are seeing to our climate around the world and here in the UK.

Regenerative agriculture and agroecology are two ways in which we can begin to improve soil health, take a step away from intensive farming and work towards our net-zero target.

To find out more about these practices, read our new article “Regenerative Agriculture and Agroecology” on our website, https://ojneilcontracting.co.uk/regenerative-agriculture-and-agroecology/. Or to discuss the practical steps you can take on your farm, please speak to our experts on 01284 811509 or email [email protected] today.

Biomass is a sustainably derived plant material that can be used as fuel to produce energy to heat and power homes and businesses.

Innovative UK biomass projects are set to receive a £26 million funding boost as the government ramps up its plans to use organic waste to fuel its net-zero aspirations.

At O J Neil Contracting, we provide year-round biomass services across the southeast by harvesting energy crops for biomass producers and supplying straw and virgin wood chips to sustainable power stations.

The Growing Benefits of Biosolids | OJ Neil Contracting 09/03/2022

The Growing Benefits of Biosolids - Explained.

Biosolids are solid organic matter recovered from the sewage treatment process and used as a fertiliser. Containing a rich variety of minerals and nutrients, it makes them a fantastic source of nutrients for improving soil health and stimulating plant growth and a cost-effective alternative to manufactured fertilisers.

The benefits include improved crop yields, reduced fertiliser production and better soil quality, among others.

To learn more, read our latest article at: https://bit.ly/3vK4mlz

The Growing Benefits of Biosolids | OJ Neil Contracting What are the benefits of biosolids and how can they improve soil health? We cover some of the basics before taking a deep dive into biosolids.

21/02/2022

The term 'Biosolids' is used for the product created following sewage treatment that can be used as a soil conditioner.

Biosolids contain essential plant nutrients and organic matter that enhance soils.

Recycling biosolids through land application is a sustainable solution. With the extremely high prices for artificial fertiliser, Biosolids are a great alternative.

We deliver and spread biosolids across East Anglia and neighbouring counties. To find out more visit:

All our biosolids are loaded with 13 ton tracked excavators. This ensures that even the wettest stockpiles are loaded without damage to the land. Our excavators are moved from stockpile to stockpile using our internal lowloader fleet.

Reality Vs. Projections - In 2013, the government projected that we would be generating almost double the amount of power through waste generation as we currently do. Support is needed to educate and improve the industry, so we can start to meet these ambitious projections.

Can your waste be turned into energy? Call 01284 811509 or visit https://www.ojneilcontracting.co.uk/ to see how OJ Neil can help.

The UK Government’s Net Zero ambitions are laudable, but slowing renewable generation shows that reality needs to catch up. In a recent REA report, it noted that the power sector saw 34.85% of its energy come from renewable sources with Biomass being a major source. We are thrilled to be working towards a greener future.

We can see the year on year increase in power generation by anaerobic digestion nicely in this graph. There was a huge jump between 2013 and 2014 in particular.

Anaerobic digestion is widely used as a source of renewable energy.

The process produces a biogas, consisting of methane, carbon dioxide, and traces of other 'contaminant' gases.

This biogas can be used directly as fuel, in combined heat and power gas engines or upgraded to natural gas-quality bio methane.

The nutrient-rich digestate also produced can be used as fertiliser.

At OJ Neil we are proud to work with a number of AD plants, assisting with the harvesting & haulage of energy crops along with diverting certain bi-products to help create a more renewable future.
