Did you know that there are different types of ?
Different types of learning disabilities affect people’s lives in different ways. Someone with a mild disability can live a normal and independent life, but this won’t be the case for someone with severe and profound disabilities who experiences difficulties with daily activities. These include household tasks, hygiene routines or social interactions. In many cases, these require around-the-clock supervision and care assistance.
A better understanding of the different learning disability types and their effects on people’s lives will help to remove the stigma and end discrimination from people living with these disorders.

We believe everyone deserves a good quality of life, regardless of age, race, ethnicity, or disability. This Learning Disability Week, we want to raise awareness of what it's like to live with a learning disability by providing helpful information and resources.💙
According to Mencap, 1.5 million people in the UK have a learning disability. Many of them struggle to fully participate in society due to a lack of understanding and misinformation.
What is a learning disability?
Learning disabilities affect a person's ability to communicate (written or oral language), leading to difficulties expressing themselves, social isolation, and trouble learning new skills. Learning disabilities are often caused by genetic or neurobiological factors, but can also be caused by birth complications, accidents, or brain injuries.

It is normal to get lonely at some point in our lives. It could be when a family/friend moves away, feeling that others do not understand you or your feelings, someone close to you passes away, or injury or illness prevents you from doing the things you love, going out and making social connections. The list can go on. However, by connecting with people and communities with similar interests, sharing your feelings and emotions could tackle loneliness.
If you are worried about a loved one being isolated or feeling alone, contact our team today to find out more about our service and how we can support them, for a better and happier quality of life.💙

10th June to 16th June marks Loneliness Awareness Week, run by the Marmalade Trust.
Since 2017, the campaign has been dedicated to raising awareness of loneliness, getting people to talk about it and reducing stigma. This year’s theme is , highlighting the importance of human interactions, whether that is a chat with a random person in the shop/café/queue, chatting with your neighbours, asking someone how their day is going, giving a compliment or even saying hello to someone passing by on the street.💙
People are social creatures, who need social interactions to lead healthier lives as it can help them improve their self-esteem, sense of purpose and confidence. Therefore, communication and connection with others play vital roles in our lives.
Have you had any random acts of connection yet?💕

On International Batten’s Disease Awareness Day, we want to praise and celebrate our young clients Matilda and Kaycee for their strong will, funny and interesting personalities, for keeping their smiles wide on their faces no matter what challenges they face and also for putting smiles on our carers’ faces. Matilda and Kaycee, you are a true inspiration and we are honoured we are part of your lives. 🧡
Today is International Batten’s Disease Awareness Day. Each year on the 9th of June people around the world unite to raise awareness of this rare and terminal neurodegenerative condition which affects children and young people. The condition is an inherited metabolic disorder passed down through families and its symptoms are often related to sight loss, seizures, cognitive decline and issues with motor skills. Currently, the disease is not curable and sadly it has a low life expectancy.
The BDFA (Batten Disease Family Association) is actively raising awareness and promoting research into the management of Batten disease to improve patient care pathways and ultimately find a cure. 🧡 This year they have launched a “Text to Donate” awareness campaign, where you can support them by texting “BATTEN” to 70085 (each text message costs £10 plus your standard message charge) or donating via their JustGiving page:
