CU Sci Social Soc
Science sOcial Society (SOS) was created to strengthen the natural sciences community.
Our goal is to organize weekly social events and study session to provide an informal space to meet natscis from other colleges.
If you'd like some natsci company and free snacks while you work, the Castlereagh room in fishers building, St johns college is open all day, hope to see you there!
Reminder that we have our first social of term today in the lovely Iris Bar in Newnham!! The event begins at 8pm and we'll have soft drinks and snacks, but please bring your own alcohol drinks! This is such a fun and friendly way to meet other natscis, if you're considering coming along please do:) Send us a message if you have any questions.
Hopefully see lots of you there!!
Dont forget, our movie night collab with Sci Soc is at 7pm in Castlereagh room, Fishers building, St Johns college. We're watching Jurassic Park and there will be pizza! See you guys then!!
We're still studying in Castlereagh room if anyone would like to join beforehand to get a bit of work done before the movie:)
Forgot to post about it earlier but we're having a social now to 11ish (feel free to drop in whenever). Plenty of snacks available 😊
Last minute change
For people planning on going to boardgames tonight we've had to cancel it at johns but please head to Churchill sixties room from 7pm as they're running a similar boardgames night!
Our first BYOB of term is happening NOW!! Come to the Iris bar, Newnham, and meet NatScis from every subject and year! Bring your favourite drink, whether it be rum or ribena. the vibes are immaculate and the snacks are (nearly) infinite, but you better get here quick if you want some! Check out our story, its getting pretty busy in here;)
Drop us a message if you aren't sure where to go :))
See you soon!!
Phew, survived week 1😮💨, that sure was intense. You've probably had a billion introduction meetings, first practicals, intro clubs, ect. So to finish off our first week, how about we skip all the fuss and just sit down, chill, and get to know eachother.
Join us at Newnham cafe Wednesday 7-11PM (turn left twice when entering plodge). You sit down in the comfy sofas, and find a group you vibe with, we'll provide soft drinks, snacks and music.🍫
Feel free to bring a beverage of choice, whether it be elderflower, wine, or something stronger. No pressure though, as we have plenty of drinks and non-drinkers. 🧋
If you get lost, message our page or the SOS chat (just message us or like the earlier post to get added)
Boardgames at John's starting 19ish, don't worry about coming late as we have plenty of boardgames
Our first event this term will be tomorrow's SOS Saturday, meaning study sesh right after lectures, 11-18 and boardgames after dinner, 19-21. Free biscuits, tea, coffee and hot chocolate included!
If you'd like to join the chat message our page or like the post below(w. the dancing cat) 😸
You'll find most of the info on the SOS Saturday event, if you have any questions or need help getting there feel free to ask in the members chat, comments, or msg our page.
Below is a map on how to get from the John's front entrance to the venue.
Welcome Freshers and new members!! Like this post (or message our page) to be added to the SOS Members chat where you'll be updated on various events, including ones not posted on facebook and ones organised by members of the community (e.g. a spontaneous bubble tea quest, study sesh at waterstones cafe, ect)
Update for anyone who's joining for the afterwork pub. We're at the eagle instead
The academic year has unfortunately come to an end😢. Thank you so much to everyone who joined us and made our first year of SOS possible! I am genuinely so happy to have seen SOS fulfill it's role of facilitating friendships (an in some cases more;) and have personally enjoyed the time spent with you guys ❤️
Looking to the future we aim to do 3 things;
- We've created the SOS Summer chat for natscis staying over summer 🏄 (React with a care emoji if you're staying over some part of summer and want to be added)
- We hope to secure the petrodollars🤑 to fund our pizza addiction 🍕
- We will get to work preparing SOS for next year with the hope of expanding our reach, doing more collaborations with other societies 🤝, and slowly becoming an established society that future freshers will see as a natural and consistent part of natsci life 👩🔬
The SOS Committee wishes you a wonderful and relaxing summer!
Looking for free pizza, donuts, and a visit to Trinity? The Institute of Physics is organising an end of year celebration for physnatscis tonight at 7-9pm. https://fb.me/e/1WlzbZS7k

Natsci exams are finally over 🥳🥳🥳
See you all at Jesus Green 16 onwards today! If you've got bumps or other plans feel free to drop in whenever! We'll bring snacks, musics and soft drinks, you bring your beverage of choice. Enjoy the sun and freedom ☀️☀️☀️
Running out of steam and need a little push to revise? Or just looking for an excuse to visit another college? Today's SOS Saturday will be hosted from 2 onwards at Magdalene Cripps Court on Chesterton lane (https://maps.app.goo.gl/oyH25VctLBXQj3qX7)

See you soon!
❗Change of location for the study session tomorrow❗
We're going to be in the Nihon Room in Pembroke from 1.30 to 6.00pm.
This is going to be our last SOS Saturday before exams! Thank you so much to everyone who's been attending, whether you're a regular or pop in when you can its been amazing meeting you all!! Hopefully see plenty of you tomorrow:))
Drop a message if you're confused about where to go or just wanna say hi!
The weather's been great lately, so if you're tired of sitting in your room join us at the botanical garden cafe for an impromptu study sesh. We'll be sitting here, distracted by the ducks, until dinnerish. Feel free to drop in whenever 🦆🦆
Hey everyone!
Todays study sesh is starting from now so if you're just finishing lectures or looking for a place to get some work done, come down to the Fisher Building in Johns for some snack-accompanied revision!
Same place as usual: Castlereagh Room, Fishers building, St Johns
See you soon:)
Congrats to everyone for finishing week 2! Terrifying, but lets meet up one more time, 19 at the Iris tonight, to recharge before the grind kicks into full gear 😁
Sorry for not setting up this week's SOS Saturday event page earlier (thought the event was already set on weekly), as usual we'll be having a meeting this week/today. Today we'll start 14:30 but from now on we'll aim to start SOS Saturdays 11:30 (so ppl can go straight from lectures or after lunch)
Today the study session runs from 2.30 to 6 and we are in the Boys Smith Room (upstairs from Castlereagh room).
Bring your pillows and blankets🧸, and cozy up with a pizza in hand 🍕 for tomorrows SciSocxSOS Movienight!! We'll meet up 18 (latercomers welcome too 🤫) tomorrow at Johns College Castleraegh room.
Also plz react going or interested on the event (https://facebook.com/events/s/movie-and-pizza-night-scisoc-x/1240196346789181/) so we know roughly how many pizzas to get. (Although you are obv still free to join even if you forget to react)
BYOB social happening now at Iris Café Newnham! Chance to meet some new natscis before the chaos of term starts! Plenty of free snacks as well!
We're at the back of the café, drop a message if you aren't sure exactly where to go :)
If you're interested in joining our community messenger chat, allowing us and others to organize smaller more spontaneous meetups, just like this post and we'll add you!
Still going strong, 15ppl, cookies and cardgames. Just finished your formal? Now's a good time to drop in 😁 🍪🍪🍪
Anyone crave some home baked cookies? You'll find us at the right corner of Newnham Iris bar, we've got crisps, port, pringles, and around 9:30 one of us is kindly bringing cookies 😍
If you have a formal or another event, I mean we'll be going on for a while, so feel free to join after;)
How to get there:
Enter Newnham plodge, take first or second left turn. Once you're in the cafe go to the left corner playing music. Note that there's another event going on at the center of the bar.
How long:
We'll probably be staying quite late, so join whenever!
Anyone coming to the SOS Saturday today: unfortunately we will be starting at the later time of 5pm today. So from 5 to 7 we will be studying in the Boys Smith Room in fishers, and from 7 to 9 we have a chill social with boardgames in the same room.
Sorry for the inconvenience and we will be back to the normal times next week! (Possibly starting earlier for those who want to head straight after your Saturday lectures... so stay tuned!)
Thanks for the chill vibes, the person who brought port, and whoever brought cards against humanity. Considering the popularity of the BYOB we'll definitely be back w. more 🥂🥂🥂
Come to Newnham café right now for a chill social event!! Great opportunity to meet (or network) with other natscis! We're at the back of the café, just follow the music, if you aren't sure drop us a message:))
Snacks are provided but bring your own drinks.
