Ellie is a member of the Admissions Team that organises many events online and in person throughout the year for students thinking about applying to university including Cambridge.

Ellie, who went to school near Bristol, says:

“I can't recall anyone in my year or anyone I knew at school who had parents who'd gone to university. A couple of people had older siblings at uni but you could probably count them on one hand.”

She went on to study Modern and Medieval Languages (MML) at the University of Cambridge

Archivist, Dr Lucy Hughes, is sorting through the College records checking several manuscripts with attached seals including one belonging to our Founder, Lady Margaret Beaufort who was born 31 May 1443. Seals were used by people in medieval England, often instead of a signature, to prove that legal documents were genuine and to agree that the contents were correct.

Photos:

1. A document with five small seals attached relating to the parsonage of Helpston in Northamptonshire.

2. The seal of Lady Margaret Beaufort. The animals on either side of the coat of arms are mythical goat-like creatures called ‘yales’ which have horns that turn.

If you were around early on this beautiful sunny morning, may have heard choir members singing anthems by Orlando Gibbons and Charles Villiers Stanford from high up on Great Gate.

Chaplain Helen led a short service.

This tradition celebrates the Feast of the Ascension which is kept on the 40th day of Easter.
