Students and staff from CSVPA have collaborated with the Whipple Museum of the History of Science for an exhibition exploring the hidden histories behind some of the objects in the museum's collection.

Owned by the University of Cambridge, the Whipple Museum houses numerous items that tell the history of science and scientific study. Through the revelations of Uncomfortable Cambridge's Uncomfortable Science tour around the museum, CSVPA students have been examining the untold stories of women in science. Using creative expression, they are telling the stories of these forgotten women.

Student Sofia was inspired by the stories of women who suffered from Hysteria and the 'medical' instrument used to cure them.

Jo M, BA (Hons) Fashion student, presented his final collection at Graduate Fashion Week 2024.

Inspired by his love of storytelling and fantasy, Jo's collection started life as as a story scribbled on the back of old receipts. From this, it evolved into sketches, and then characters fleshed out with fabric and form.

His collection reflects the characters that inhabit his fantasy world. However, it also emphasizes his ethos on sustainability, crafted from deadstock fabrics and repurposed accessories, including belts and clasps.

Being selected for Graduate Fashion Week is a considerable achievement, with over 1,000 graduates competing to showcase their work.

CSVPA students from our Drama courses took to the stage to explore contemporary playwright Laura Lomas’ play Chaos during a private performance.

The project was part of the students’ assessment work and provided each of them with the opportunity to work on their skills in character development, physical theatre, devising scenes and approaching dialogue.

Chaos is just one of the performances our drama students studying the Extended Diploma in Performing and Production Arts and the Professional Foundation Diploma in Performance have taken part in this year. Each year, our actors have the opportunity to perform in private and public performances both within CSVPA and in theatres around Cambridge.

On Friday 8th December, CSVPA students showcased a fantastic rendition of ‘The Little Mermaid’ as a quintessential British pantomime. 🐟 🌴🦀

For international students, a British pantomime is a very new experience. Not only did they have to learn about this tradition, but they also actively contributed to its production, broadening their theatrical skills.🎭

We sat down with Drama tutor and pantomime Director Chris McKay to discuss the show and the challenges students faced during this unique experience -

Within the session, Liz discussed with students how to apply to UAL, write an eye-catching and authentic personal statement, and the nuances of curating a strong portfolio. ✏️

Dennic Lo, pathway lead for Foundation Fashion Design at CSVPA, said “Having this strong relationship with UAL really benefits our students. Today, our students will take away something that is unique to them, a second opinion on their work from one of the best arts universities in the world." 🌎
