👩🏻‍⚕️International Day of the Midwife - 5th May👩🏻‍⚕️

The International Day of the Midwife has been celebrated since 1991. We think it should have been much sooner - the word midwife dates back to around 1300! Today, there are around 25,000 registered midwives in the UK (including 106 males). In the Middle Ages, midwives were often accused of witchcraft and many met their fate in a dubious fashion. Thank goodness things have moved on!

We want to celebrate midwives all around the world for the work they do, caring for mothers and babies throughout each stage of pregnancy, all the way through to birth!

Midwives significantly improve health outcomes for both mother and baby. They are heroes! If you know a midwife, celebrate them today. Ask them about their role, their favourite moments of being a midwife, their worst moments, and let them know that they are appreciated!
