Newingate School
An independent special school in Canterbury providing a safe and therapeutic setting for children aged 11-18 with a diagnosis of autism.
With just one more week of term to go, staff are enjoying some well deserved end of year fun!
Today, a group of our students had fun participating in the PowerHouseGames organised by Power2Inspire! They had the chance to try out inclusive and adapted sports like boccia, sitting volleyball, goalball, new age kurling, and sitting netball. It was amazing to see our students, along with their new teammates from other schools, successfully working together.
We're really proud of our students for stepping out of their comfort zones, meeting new people, staying active, and embracing inclusivity.
Well done to all those involved! ๐๐๐
Today our students had their first taste of the business world, using their entrepreneurial skills to set up their own mini-enterprise at the South Quay Shed! ๐ฐ
From handmade crafts to delicious treats, students not only showcased their creativity but also gained valuable skills in teamwork, communication, and problem-solving, all of which are essential skills that will serve them well in the future.
It's great to see students learning through practical experiences like these.
Well done everyone!! ๐๐

Today, we had the incredible opportunity to host the Autism Reality Experience during our training day. This innovative and immersive program provides a firsthand experience of the sensory processing difficulties that may be faced by individuals on the autism spectrum.
Our staff fully embraced this hands-on training, immersing themselves in a simulated environment to gain a deeper understanding of sensory overload. It was an eye-opening experience that has equipped us with valuable insights and tools to better support our students and create an even more inclusive and supportive environment at school.
๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ Walk For Autism Day 2๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถโโ๏ธ
What a fantastic end to the term! Our dedicated staff have been putting their best foot forward and really stepping up to this challenge. With the busyness of the day, staff managed to complete most of their footsteps during school hours. But that's not all!
Our Assistant Headteacher went the extra mile (literally!) and squeezed in her last steps this evening with a lap around The Leas Cliff Hall during the interval! Now, that's commitment and determination!

Day 1: Today the entire school took a trip to Blean Woods๐ณto kickstart the Walk for Autism 2024 challenge. Together, we followed the red route and completed a loop of 1.5 miles, collectively walking a total of approximately 92,000 steps!!๐ฃ
Students also enjoyed climbing trees and exploring the woodland, searching for hidden Pokemon along the trail. Students were rewarded for their efforts at the end of the walk with ice lollies and Easter eggs!
For the second year running, Newingate School is supporting 'Walk For Autism' and staff are taking on the challenge of walking 10,000 steps a day ๐ฃ for 8 days to raise awareness and funds for this great cause.
We have already raised an impressive sum, and thank everyone who has supported us so far. For those who want to sponsor us, there's a link to our sponsorship page below. ๐ถโโ๏ธ๐ถ๐ฝโโ๏ธ
