Whisky & Beards are thrilled to announce we have been awarded an Arts Council England project grant to support the publishing of five new books of poetry.
This investment means we're able to bring aboard a fresh crew of editors, marketing professionals and cover artists to make these five releases our biggest and best titles yet.
This isn't just a win for W&B, it's a win for all our writers, our new team and the community of poets we support. It means radical change to the way we do things, but we'll still be your friendly neighbourhood poetry publisher and we'll still giving artists 90% of the profits their books make.

Whisky & Beards Publishing Day 7: 'Paint by Numbers'. If you want to take part, go check out the W&B's page for deets!

Text:

1. Shade in the brown of her eyes, being careful of -

2. the small blotting of green; the final days of autumn.

3. Fill in the freckles, somewhere between wet sand and fool's gold.

4. Time dictates the colour of her hair. Watch closely, paint each strand accordingly.

5. She will stain her lips with reds and purples. Leave them blank, they will never look quite like you remember.

6. Her neck is the evanescent pink of veins raised by teeth.

7. Hold the painting in your mind.

8. Let your eyes paint your skin in translucent streams.

Oh, how I wish to replace the white filter,
Pressed, firmly, between your lips,
As your gentle hands craft the last cigarette of the day.

To be stained by the dark shade of your cheap lipstick.
If I am lucky, you will hold me too tight,
For just a moment too long.
The moisture will crack your skin with indignant purpose,
So I can steal a drop of your crimson blood,
To taint my snowy white complexion.

Though it will only be a moment,
Before you cast me aside,
I will remain sane,
In the knowledge that,
For one brief second,
As you dragged the ni****ne deep into your lungs,

That fleeting instant of ecstasy,
Belonged to me.
