University scores funding to encourage activity in the community through touch rugby.

The Rugby Football Union (RFU) has awarded Canterbury Christ Church Universityโ€™s Sport and Active Health Department funding for an exciting touch rugby initiative.

In collaboration with Canterbury Rugby Football Club, the project aims to promote active living and community engagement through the introduction of touch rugby sessions.

The free touch rugby sessions are open to individuals of all skill levels, providing an inclusive and welcoming environment for participants. This initiative aligns with the University's commitment to promoting healthy lifestyles and strengthening community bonds through sports and recreational activities. Sessions will be hosted at the Canterbury Rugby Club every Friday evening, from 7pm to 8.30pm.

The Touch Rugby Project will be spearheaded by University student and sports scholar, Ella Jenkins. Taking on the role of Touch Rugby Project Officer, Ella will dedicate 10 hours per week to support the development and ex*****on of the project.

Speaking about the initiative, Paul Carney, Director of Sport at Canterbury Christ Church University, said: "I am thrilled to be part of an initiative that encourages more people to be active. Touch rugby is a fantastic sport and our superb womenโ€™s rugby community is already very friendly and supportive; the funding from the Rugby Football Union will help extend this opportunity even further. I am eager for our team to contribute to its success in our community."

Nathan Morris, Head of Player Pathway at Canterbury Rugby Club said: โ€œWe are thrilled to collaborate with Canterbury Christ Church University on this touch rugby project. It's a fantastic opportunity to bring our community together through the love of the game. This initiative not only promotes getting more active but also strengthens the bonds between our club and the broader community. We look forward to welcoming participants to our club every Friday evening and creating lasting memories on the rugby field."

If you are unable to access the nomination forms from the links provided, please head to ccsu.co.uk/voice-awards/

Volunteering and GradForce are awards that cannot be nominated for. These are in recognition of the time students have dedicated outside of their studies, to their personal development.

If you are a student volunteer, make sure that your volunteering log is up to date. These can be roles outside and with the university. The hours you log are not just recognised at the awards ceremony in May, but also on your university transcript.
Head to the Volunteering Hub to log your hours!

How we will celebrate the Students and Staff you nominate:

Once you have nominated someone each winner and runner up will receive complimentary entrance to the awards, a certificate and for the winners, a trophy. All nominees will be invited to the awards and recognised for their hard work. You too are welcome to come and celebrate on the day! We will also be serving free food and drinks at the award ceremony.

After the Award Ceremony we will be circulating all the positive things you have said to the nominee excluding your name unless you decide to send a Video nomination! Please give us as much detail as to why you think they deserve an award, so that you can make their day!

Important dates to remember:
Nominations close on Thursday 25th of April at 17:00.
We will be back in touch on Wednesday 1st of May regarding booking a spot at the event.
The actual award ceremony is set to take place on Wednesday 29th of May from 13:00-16:00 at Augustine Hall.

The Student Voice and Golden Apple Awards are proudly hosted by Christ Church Students' Union in collaboration with Peer Mentoring, Careers and Enterprise (GradForce and Volunteering) and the School and College Engagement Team.

We hope to see you all there!
