Did you know there are 22 bones in the infant skull which are designed to move over each other to allow for squeezing down the birth canal. After birth, yawning, sucking and crying helps to move the cranial bones back into position and the bones will fuse (become fixed) later over time. Sometimes, however, yawning, sucking and crying may not completely put everything back in place, if perhaps the birth was very traumatic, forceps or ventouse were used. If any of the bones, nerves and muscles are out of line, tense or trapped this could affect the way a baby can use his mouth, jaw and tongue to latch and suckle correctly. He/she may feel uncomfortable and tense.

Cranial osteopathy is an osteopathic technique using very gentle and subtle movements to release restrictions and correct the body's alignment. The osteopath works with the body's own fluid movement by mainly palpating the cranial bones, spine and sacrum and thereby attempting to restore health to the body.

Cranial osteopathy for treating reflux helps the neck and diaphragm of baby relax, so that feeding is more comfortable and efficient. The stomach and digestion generally responds to relaxation and calming, so that milk is naturally processed and absorbed.

We had a little visitor at the weekend 🐶

England have announced that everyone accessing or visiting healthcare settings must continue to wear a face covering and follow social distancing rules to ensure patients and staff are protected.

From 19 July, the practice will continue operating under the same precautionary measures, nothing will change.
