Many years ago....close to 40 I believe..my uncle took me fishing for the first time. And I hated it at the beginning...I had to walk for 12 miles every day to get to the fishing river and it was hot, bugs everywhere, I could not play the whole day...but then I started loving it. I started to love nature, the outdoors, walking, the sun, swimming.

At times, I thought...I hope his annual leave finished faster so I can stop going fishing...but now I realise how much I owe him for being persistent and for not giving up on my tantrums when I was annoyed by all this.

Moving forwards, I am so pleased he took the time and patience to guide me. This is my life right now and I love every bit of it! And seeing my children following this and genuinely loving nature and the outdoors makes me so happy! Some parents want their children to study more physics maybe and maths and stay indoors, and that is fine....

I want my children to study...LIFE. I want them to cherish the planet, nature, peace, simple things, to be grateful for every day as it comes. And study in school too, but not to the detriment of studying life.

Spending time with my children is the most inportant to me. There is no better education for them than learning from their own experiences, but knowing I am always there to support and protect them. Their future is much more brighter if they have this bond, this connection and certainty....me working extratime and not being with them just to buy them houses and to leave them a "legacy" fades in the distance in front of all this!

A beautiful story indeed....
A great lesson for life.
I wish I had my microphone with me to record this conversation in a podcast....
It is such a small world and to meet this man twice in 24 hours after I have never met him before is such an amazing alignment in the stars....

I met this gentleman last night in the campsite we were staying in. He wanted to have dinner and we invited him at our table. We started talking and sharing life experiences. He was alone, doing some amazing distances on his bike from campsite to campsite. He travelled in excess of 150 km every day. He had 3 weeks to cover around 2000 Km from Oslo to Alesund and back, with a few detours to important touristic routes.

What struck me in our conversation was his simplicity and minimalism. He works in an important IT job in Oslo, probably very well paid, and he is the most simple and humble person I have ever met.

We shared with him some fish we just caught and cooked and he shared with us some Coca Cola and chocholate. He told me how, every year, he does 3-4 weeks trips around different locations in Europe, but mainly in Norway. He told us how he never gets a hotel but instead camps everywhere. He told us about not owning a car and cycling everywhere. He told us about how he lives on around 25% of his income and how he could retire 20 years before age with his savings. He told us he dreams of a minimalist home and a simple life in nature on very little spending. He told us about how unnecessary luxury makes him turn his head the other way.

And this made my day.... such a humble but interesting journey and how you can live and love life with minimal resources!

The last thing he told me made so much sense though...he said: "Every day I wake up I ask myself: what do I really want to do today? And then I do just that". He applies the same principle to his friendships, holiday planning, important shopping items...and this makes him immensely happy every single day.

Look, lots of people ask me why camp when I can afford to pay for a hotel? Well, because when I wake up, I want to be in nature. I also want not to be enslaved by my spending, but instead to stay on top of it. I want to spend 4 weeks camping with my children rater than a week in an all inclusive. I want to be able to retire when I want and not to have to work until 70 to pay for expensive stuff I don't need.

Life is more than ownership. Life is evenings you spend talking with strangers about life. Life is when you wake up and you don't have to work but you WANT to work! Life is about waking up in the morning and asking yourself: what do I REALLY want to do today and actually do that...life is about CHOICE.

Now, why did I say it is a small world??
Last night I said good night, see you in the morning for coffee...but he left at 6 as the rain woke him up and he could not sleep, so when I woke up he was not there....but, SURPRISE, 12 hours later we met randomly 90 kilometers away...and took this picture of me and him.

You ask me what is his name? I have not asked, and he did not ask either. We did not need any introduction, but there was a deep connection that is beyond names

I expect to see him again in this life...
Or maybe I won't....
But our evening talk will live forever!
What a day! What a guy!

DO YOU TAKE THINGS FOR GRANTED?
How often do you forget to be grateful for simple things? Let me put this in perspective for you.....

We just came to the beach.
I took a swim, came out of the water and asked myself: how do I feel right now? And I felt nothing special, just another day at the nearby beach...

But then I remembered June 2020....
The second major lockdown, 2 weeks indoors in the hottest summer that we have seen in 10 years....
Sat in my office, pouring sweat, wrestling with the awkwardness of running the refurb of our first HMO in a lockdown....

And the thing I was craving for dear life was just one...A SWIM IN THE SEA....
One day, after a coaching call, I dared and jumped in the car, drowe 500m "across the county border", YES, aganist the rules...🫣🫣, and took a MAGIC swim exactly in the same place I am in today....

You cannot imagine the joy, the huge felling of gratefulness I was living in those moments. 20 minutes in the sea energised me for weeks and weeks....

Writing this makes me feel immensely grateful for my swim today....and one of the first things we teach at Altravita Health is gratitude because we understand how it can shift one's level of happiness and change perspective immediatly! This is not true.....
The problem is not the price of different food classes. The biggest problem is the lack of priority about HEALTH and good NUTRITION and convenience..

I can buy right now a punnet of fresh strawberries for a pound at the local market, I can buy a whole honeymellon for under 2 quid in supermarkets....

The problem is buying the latest I phone every 2 years over healthy food, the problem is spending 100 per week on alcohol, the problem is buying a new car at 3 years, the problem is living in houses way too big....change your priority on HEALTH and you will find all the money you need to buy healthy food!

And then is the problem of convenience.
I have never seen a queue at the fruit stand at the Cardiff market...but drive past any FAST unhealthy Food shop like MCD or KFC, endless rows of cars...Fruit needs to be bought, washed, stored, when a bag of fries takes 2 minutes of waiting in the car...

You make your choices...
Let's not blame the system.
Take responsibility!

I could have been in town last night having a few cold ones...but I chose not to wake up today feeling groggy, I chose an early morning walk! The issue I find with alcohol is creating this time debt on the next day(s) through the delayed effects of alcohol! Show up to yourself!

Teach them young.....they say!
One of the biggest challenges these days is to get children outside...they just want to be on devices all day. But all can be fixed, if YOU get involved! Because look, if you also spend your evenings after work on devices, then who is teaching them about being outside?

After a very busy day yesterday, and after her 90 minutes cycling class, she was so keen to go to the local park!
And she has nothing special for this, is just me and Alice spending most of our free time outdoors!

If you don't lead by example, you cannot just expexct it from them!
