Thomas Goode Silver Knives - Painted Meissen Porcelain Handles in Original Case. c1870
A 'Very Rare' late nineteenth century original Black leather case of T. Goode cutlery containing the 9 of a set of 12 knifes. Inside the box it is marked 'T. Goode and Co of South Audley Street, London. Thomas Goode moved to this address in 1845. Each piece of cutlery is fully hallmarked by T. G. & Co. The handle design is very similar to the Queen Victoria pattern, but this is not confirmed. The handles are likely by Meissen, who were the oldest porcelain manufactory in Germany and are still considered the best.
Thomas Goode was established in 1827 and is still famous for its china, silverware and glass. In the mid 19th century, the business transformed into London’s tableware emporium by Thomas Goode’s son, William Goode, who travelled the world in search of the finest porcelain from Herend and Meissen and bone china designs from the Royal Crown Derby. Notable clients of the time were Queen Victoria and the Tsar of Russia. Today Thomas Goode still holds its Royal Warrant to two members, HM The Queen and The Prince of Wales.
For their age, they are in remarkebly good condition. Several are missing and several have slight cracks and slight ware, but is to be expcected and adds to their authenticity and charm. The overall condition of these beautiful and rare items has been taken into consideration based on condition. I am open to offers but as these have been in the family for a very long time, I will only accept resonable offers.

An "Exceptionally Rare" Army & Navy C S L Makers (Stamped) late Victorian Officers Cutlery/Document Campaign Chest, c1850-1890.
I have not been able to find another chest like this anywhere, other than from an old company catalogue. Based on its antique age, it is in outstanding quality . The two locking panelled doors enclosing three drawers of a good, hand-cut, dovetailed construction with flush brass lock. It has side lifting handles also in brass.
To obtain one of these items you were required to be a member. However, membership was restricted to officers, non-commissioned officers and their families. Friends could join by introduction and officials from the civil service and clubs etc. could also join.
Premises were opened at 105 Victoria Street and the Society quickly grew to be a very large concern with depots at important army bases and ports. With a large demand from members in India, a store was opened in Bombay in 1891, followed by Karachi in 1892 and Calcutta in 1901. The Society manufactured or commissioned a number of the items they sold and this is particularly true of items for the home, but especially, travel furniture and luggage etc., for officers deployed abroad.
