22 High Street Arcade

This was the shop before we moved in and then as the shop started taking shape. It’s changed a few times since to cater for more barber and tattoo stations to give the shop, team and customers more room and a better experience.

Who remembers when the shop look like this? We started off with two barbers chairs and 3 tattoo booths which were made up of old wooden doors and red velvet curtains 😳.

Owner/Director

I packed up touring, I found the shop, I signed the contract, I sh*t myself knowing there was no going back now, I’d never owned or ran a business, I had no experience whatsoever on what to do, I still don’t, I had a lot of help from many people of which I’m grateful, I had so much doubt, I realised I had to have certain licenses for many things which could take months, I started getting bills and I wasn’t even open, I looked like a coal miner renovating the basement, new building problems revealed themselves a few times, had a tattoo and barber shop with no staff to work it etc etc I could go on. They don’t call me Mr 50-50 for no reason.

After all of the above we held the opening party on February 9th 2014 and what a night that was. If you went you know the score.

If it wasn’t for the help of a few people (you know who you all are) the thought of even making it passed the first week let alone 10 years is a miracle.

Opening a business is f*****g hard but like anything in life unless you try you’ll never know but I’m glad I tried because we’re still here 10 years later thanks to a top team and top customers.

Craig has been tattooing for about 12 years and specialise in black and grey and realism, he has a passion for all art mediums such as painting drawing and graffiti he also enjoys travelling and guest spotting at other studios.

Craig is straight outta Zooport and he’s a great asset to the team.

Anthony has been tattooing since he was about 21.
He tattooed in Scotland for 7 years and has been back here since the end of 2022.
He has tattooed most styles and techniques in his career and has found new traditional to be his strongest.
He loves it when clients have done their due diligence and choose their tattooer for their particular skill set. Whether choosing the artists own available designs or coming with a bespoke request, this makes for a much more honest and immersive tattoo experience.

Roxy has been a tattoo artist for 2 and a half years, her style is influenced by classic tattoo flash folk and surrealism. She's always had a passion for art and when starting to tattoo, She really took a huge interest in the history of tattooing. Nature and the outdoors inspire her to get creative With a love to hand draw and paint flash.

Karol is a tatttoo artist from Sicily Italy 🇮🇹

He specialized in traditional American black white or color tattooing for 9 years, worked in Sicily and Poland for many years then came to Cardiff 4 years ago. I love painting my drawings on cardboard with watercolors and then tattooing them on skin. I like the idea of ​​collecting works of art by other artists. I like making the tattoo unique and personal to my client

Sophie is the newest member of the team and has been Working as a tattoo artist for just under two years, Sophia transitioned from the illustration industry after graduating in Cardiff. Sophia has previously worked on illustrations for album covers and t shirt brands, and continues to freelance alongside tattooing.

She has a love for Blackwork with a gothic twist, and continues to build her portfolio with us at SWYD.

Joe has been Cutting hair for 7 years and has been a member of the SWYD team for 3 years.

He’s Cut hair at shows including Barber UK, Barber Connect and British Master Barbers Live
Cut hair for DJ David Rust, boxer Felix Cash and rugby players Keiran Hardy, Taulupe Faletau and Shaun Stevenson.

His career in barbering has let him cut hair and live in Ibiza for seasons at a time, he’s a great asset to our shop and team 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Oscar has been with us since 2015 and has been a massive part of the shop ever since. He’s been in the barbering indsutry for over 10 years and provides our customers with a traditional haircut and a smile you won’t forget. Oscar brings to the shop an unmatched Level of energy and enthusiasm and has been asset to the evolution of SWYD.

Dan is the newest Barber addition to SWYD, switching from a 12 year background as a designer in creative industries.

Not only that, he previously founded a coworking space and a creative social, worked in a bunch of craft beer bars and even ran a houseplant company during 2020.

On top of all that, Dan is a Mental Health First Aider and Trainer, driven by helping our top community of customers look and feel good.

Dan is a great addition to the SWYD team and since joining us last year Dan already has a strong client base and his Booksy reviews say a lot about his work and his ability to hold a good conversation with his customers.

💈Meet the team

Miles O’Keefe has been at SWYD from almost the first day we opened and is also part owner of the shop. His dedication & loyalty a is very much appreciated.

Miles has gone on to cutting the likes of Travis Barker and his family to cutting hair back stage at the Principality Stadium for Justin Biebers band and dancers, and many in-between from international rugby stars such as the All Blacks to the Welsh football team.

Also worked on Netflix film ‘Havoc’ starring Tom Hardy, filmed in our beautiful country wales! , more recently he has been working with brands such as Sports Direct and Head and Shoulders.

Tomorrow we celebrate our 10th anniversary at SWYD, 10 bloody years mun 😳😃

The reason we’re still here is thanks to the hard work of our staff past and present and the continued support of our loyal customers.

Having a small business in this current climate is absolutely bonkers but we keep trucking like we always have.

To all the staff and everyone who has passed through our doors over the years a huge THANK YOU because without you we won’t be here.
