Charlotte Ansell’s third poetry collection Deluge (Flipped Eye) was a 2019 Poetry Book Society winter recommendation and her fourth Amittere is forthcoming in Spring 2025. Her poems have appeared in Poetry Review, Mslexia, Ink, Sweat and Tears, Butcher’s Dog, Iamb and various anthologies. Charlotte was a recipient of a Royal Society of Literature - Literature Matters Award in 2020.

Lola Oh is a Black British poet and photographer based in South London.

Lola’s poem ‘Bad Daughters’ was shortlisted for The White Review’s Poet Prize. Lola is an alumni of the Roundhouse Poetry Collective, Griots Well and Barbican Young Poets. She is a 2021 Roundhouse Slam Finalist, and has been featured by Apples and Snakes, BBC1xtra, English Touring Theatre, BoxedIn and Roundhouse’s The Last Word Festival

Anneliese is a British-Ghanaian writer and poet.

Her past features and creative engagements include Cece's Speakeasy and BBC’s Words First in collaboration with Apples and Snakes.

She has headlined events such as Spine Festival, Dulwich Festival and Jawdance x Bloomsbury Festival, and performed at prestigious venues such as the US Embassy.

Her first short story was selected as a winning entry for her borough and subsequently published in Spread the Word's City of Stories: Home anthology and she has since had her work published by Magma Poetry.

This winter, Medway Poetry Night goes online. This means you get to enjoy poetry on our Instagram Live from the comfort of your home.

Also way more people can participate for free, so start cleaning up those poems.

On Saturday, our doors open for the October version of Medway Poetry Night and it promises to be unforgettable.

We'll kick off with open mic performances, so bring your poems, even the ones you have been afraid to read out loud.

Then everyone present will get to read a poem from a Black poet. We'll have poems printed waiting for you. It's a great opportunity to learn about Black literature and poets!

Our next poetry night is Sunday, August 27, 2023.

Our feature poet will be announced on Saturday, he is quite popular in the Medway poetry circle.

Calling Medway poets!

Charlotte Ansell and Sarah Hehir have been awarded funding from The Old High Street Cultural Consortium to run a series of FREE poetry workshops once a month on Friday nights from 7.30-9.30pm starting in September on the following dates:

8th September - Interrogating Words
13th October- Poetry of Place- exploring the Intra area
10th November- led by a guest poet t.b.c
1st December- Feedback and critique session

All the workshops will take place in the lovely front room at:

Intra Arts, 337-341 High St,
Rochester ME1 1DA

and will culminate in a performance of work produced in the workshops on the 9th December, also at Intra Arts which will be open to a public audience.

The workshops will be suitable for anyone aged 16 or over, those new to poetry as well as more experienced poets and we welcome anyone who wants some dedicated time to write, with an interest in improving their craft.
