The importance of outside play in early years can’t be underestimated. Being outside allows children to express themselves freely, children can jump, shout and explore to their hearts content. The sense of freedom playing outdoors brings is fantastic for a child’s development. It gives them the opportunity to explore, be imaginative and wonder at nature, all the while learning new and exciting things.
Our garden gives our children an appreciation of nature and the environment. They can experience nature in their own surroundings and learn about habitats and lifecycles.
We utilise our outdoor space everyday to help develop children in all areas of learning.
Research shows that outdoor learning…
• boosts confidence,
• social skills,
• mental wellbeing,
• communication,
• motivation,
• physical skills,
• knowledge and understanding,
• increases children’s self-esteem and self-confidence,
• encourages the ability to work cooperatively,
• develops social skills, maths skills, motor skills
literacy skills and provides unique sensory experience
…the list of benefits is endless!
Within a safe environment, children are also able to explore personal risk, such as how high to climb, their proximity to spiders, or even the feel of damp leaves and mud on their fingertips.
Most of all being in our garden, outside in the fresh air, is FUN!

We believe that a good relationship between parents/carers and the nursery staff is essential for the overall wellbeing of the child. Alphabets has a closed parent only page available.
