CLINICALLY PROVEN PRODUCTS YOU SHOULD USE FOR ANTI AGEING

• Sunscreen - every day of the year spf 30/50

• Retinoids - powerhouse anti-ageing ingredient that works to stimulate cell turnover and increase our skin’s natural collagen production in the epidermis and dermis

• Bakuchiol - If you can’t use retinol due to skin sensitivity, bakuchiol is a suitable retinol alternative that is still well-studied and efficacious in clinical trials

• Vitamin C - a potent antioxidant that has been shown to work well with sunscreen to protect the skin from UV and free-radical damage

• Peptides - building blocks of protein and send signals to help build collagen

• Hyaluronic Acid - for dry skin in particular, hyaluronic acid can deliver an immediate plumping effect as well as improve the skin over time

• Epidermal Growth Factor - large proteins derived from either human cells, animal cells, or plant cells that promote the increase of structural proteins like collagen and elastin

• Polyglutamic Acid - powerful humectant derived from fermented soybean that can pe*****te skin’s layers to provide incredible moisture

• Exosomes - Exosomes are stem-cell growth factors that support skin health and rejuvenation, reducing signs of ageing

• Ceramides - help keep the skin barrier intact, which contributes to a complexion that’s firmer, more hydrated, and overall more youthful-looking

DRY SKIN IS NOT DEHYDRATED SKIN

Dry skin lacks oil and is a skin type. Dehydrated skin lacks water and is a skin condition.

If you have dry skin the this is something you need to manage daily, you can’t change your skin type but you can manage it. You can also have dry skin if your skin barrier is compromised or your skin isn’t producing enough natural moisturising factors.

How to treat dry skin?

✔️ Use a humidifier in cold months
❌ Avoid foaming cleansers
✔️ Use a chemical exfoliant
❌ Avoid long hot showers
✔️ Add ceramides and oils into regime

If you need help with products then book a skin consultation and I can design you a regime to take care of your skin.

HOW ALCOHOL AFFECTS THE SKIN

Alcohol zaps skin of moisture and slows down the processes of cellular repair. Studies show that even moderate alcohol consumption affects skin.

Even a couple drinks per week can cause under eye puffiness and reduced facial volume. Heavy alcohol use, which is considered eight or more drinks per week for women is associated with amplified signs of ageing.

Lymphatic drainage facials combined with hydration are a great way to reduce puffiness and hydrate the skin after alcohol consumption.

Lymphatic facials are £65 and will help remove toxins from the body. They are very relaxing and can improve facial contours.

CONFIDENCE RETURNED

The effect that improving an individual’s skin can have on mental health is huge. Clients often come to me upset, embarrassed and not confident, so to be able to provide a solution to feel good again is why my job is so amazing.

When clients feedback ‘I can go out without makeup’ or ‘I feel so much more comfortable’ or ‘I feel great’ is why my job makes me so happy.

It’s a big thing being happy in the skin we are in and being the best version of ourselves. It’s not vain to look after yourself and feel better about yourself!

Get in touch if you are struggling so that I can help you feel your best!

LYMPHATIC DRAINAGE FACIAL

When there’s any kind of obstruction in your lymphatic system, fluid can start to build up. That’s why a lymphatic drainage facial is necessary to help remove the toxin build up.

• Stimulates the skin and brings oxygen and nutrients

It is recommended to have these anything from weekly to monthly. Lymphatic facials are 1hr and cost £65.

BHA CHEMICAL EXFOLIANTS

Beta hydroxy acids or ‘BHAs’ are oil-soluble chemical exfoliants that reach deep into the pores to break down bonds between dead skin cells. BHAs are also antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, which makes them especially helpful in treating acne and soothing sensitive skin. Salicylic acid is debatably the most popular BHA, known for its acne-busting and dead-skin-sloughing abilities.

MAIN BENEFITS: BHAs are antibacterial and anti-inflammatory, making them ideal for treating different types of acne.

WHO SHOULD USE IT: People with oily or acne-prone skin should incorporate BHAs into their routine.

HOW OFTEN CAN YOU USE IT: While frequency varies depending on individual skin types and concerns, one to two times per week is a good place to start.

WORKS WELL WITH: BHAs work well with gentle, hydrating ingredients.

DON'T USE WITH: Avoid other actives like retinoids and vitamin C when using BHAs. You can use on alternate days instead.

ICE ICE BABY

Ice alone may not cure a spot, it can decrease swelling and redness, making it less noticeable.

Ice also has a numbing effect, which can offer temporary pain relief for severely inflamed spots.

When icing a spot, follow these simple steps:

• Make sure your skin is clean and freshly washed

• Wrap an ice cube in a thin washcloth – never apply ice directly to your skin!

• Place the wrapped cubed directly on top of the spot

• Hold in place for 1 minute - no longer, as you don’t want to harm the surrounding skin

• Remove ice, wait 5 minutes.

• Reapply for 1 more minute, if needed

• Follow up with a targeted acne product

DERMAPLANING £40

Dermaplaning is a non-invasive skin procedure that involves using a sharp tool to exfoliate the surface of your skin, while also removing small, fine hairs.

Anyone who has unwanted facial hair and anyone who wants exfoliation can benefit. Dermaplaning is also great for pregnant women or those with super-sensitive skin since they can't use certain products and exfoliating treatments. It’s an alternative way to lightly resurface the skin.

Dermaplaning is painless. The only possible side effect is slight redness, which fades almost immediately.

Who Shouldn't Have Dermaplaning Done?

Those with severe skin sensitivities or any sort of skin issue like rosacea or psoriasis should have a consultation first before undergoing a dermaplaning procedure. As dermaplaning works by gliding along the surface of the skin, it could exacerbate any underlying issues.

EXFOLIATING THE SKIN

Exfoliation is key for all skin types, however frequency and type of exfoliator depend on your skin type.

Exfoliation is important because it supports skin cell turnover which improves skin health and gives the skin a glow.

There are different types of exfoliants- chemical, physical & mechanical.

Exfoliation is included in all of my facials & I will choose the best exfoliant to suit your skin type. Alternatively I offer skin consultations where I can create you a skincare regime to suit your skin type.

ZINC SUPPLEMENTS FOR ACNE

Zinc is involved in every stage of the wound healing process, from the initial inflammation to the formation of new tissue. It helps the body produce collagen to give strength and structure to the skin.

Zinc's anti-inflammatory properties help the body to reduce swelling and redness in acne patients. Since zinc also helps wound healing, it can help to reduce any residual acne scarring.

Zinc comes in many forms, but what you need to look for is oral zinc sulfate, as it’s the easiest for the body to absorb. Zinc can also help with acne externally. Sunscreens containing zinc oxide can help with repairing your skin while protecting against harmful ultraviolet rays.

SUNBURNT SKIN SOS

It happens so let’s discuss how best to care for it rather than beat ourselves up for letting it happen.

• Use a very gentle cleanser or would be my go to.
• Apply Aloe Vera or Calamine to soothe the irritation.
• Have cold showers and apply cold compresses to the sunburnt area.
• Stay out of the sun as you don’t want to make it any worse.
• Don’t pick, it slows down the healing process and could leave you with scars.
• Moisturise with a lightweight moisturiser that co gains healing ingredients such as ceramides, panthenol and glycerin.
• Apply SPF to stop further damage and sunburn.

ALWAYS REMEMBER TANS ARE A SIGN OF DAMAGE AND NOT HEALTH. Get a good fake tan instead 🫶🏼

BODY ACNE

I get asked about this a lot so here’s a bit of info…
The most common cause of body acne is sweating, so people tend to find it worsens in the warmer months. Hormonal changes and stress can also cause body acne.

How to treat it?
I can treat body acne in clinic with the which will reduce breakouts & reduce and redness and irritation.

Topical products can be used to treat it, here are some I recommend…

• SA Smoothing Cream
• Transforming Body Lotion
• Salicylic Acid Body Wash
• Clarifying Body Spray

CLEANSING IS SO IMPORTANT

If you don’t cleanse properly everything you do afterwards will be a flop. You could use the best serum in the world but if your face isn’t clean you may as well wash it down the sink.

AM Cleanse - cleanse by taking a 10p size amount and massage into the skin. Don’t rush this as the longer you do it the better the results. Wash off with a warm flannel.

PM Cleanse - Double cleanse. First cleanse removes makeup, spf & grime build up. Second cleanse will clean your skin. Again take time over these steps as they are setting you up for anything you apply afterwards.

DERMALUX LED

A medical device used to treat problematic skin.

This transformation was a process over 12 weeks. 1 session per week for 4 weeks and then 8 sessions every 2 weeks. We then maintain the results with a monthly session.

I also created a simple skincare regime to maintain and boost the results.

ESSENTIAL SKINCARE FOR FLYING

Something I’ve been asked a lot recently is how to look after your skin while flying. A lot of people feel their skin ‘dries out’ or ‘feels tight’.

What I pack…

• Mini Cleanser & a pack of gauze to wash my face
• Always a mini spritz bottle with a hydrating toner in it, I’m taking two for my long haul flight as it freshens me up.
• Mini moisturiser
• SPF - yes UV rays increase with altitude. Pilots have an increased risk of melanoma!
• Wipes - NOT for my face but to freshen up my body and wipe my hands.
• Lip Balm is a must
• Hand cream
• A light face oil, squalane or jojoba for me.
• I like eye drops as my eyes can get quite itchy
• Hand sanitiser as well
• All mini versions so they fit in the clear bags!

It sounds a lot but I decant the products into smaller pots so it takes up minimal room.

MOST EFFECTIVE WAYS TO INCREASE COLLAGEN

As we age collagen decreases and the quality worsens - great 🙄 So what are the most effective ways to increase collagen production?

• Aesthetic Procedures. Microneedling, chemical peels & radiofrequency have stood the test of time and are still the go to for anyone wanting to rebuild collagen in the skin.

• SPF. UV rays are directly linked to collagen degradation, so wearing a SPF 30 or 50 (not in makeup or spf) will slow the breakdown of collagen.

• Antioxidants. Not just a topical serum, but eating a diet which contains a lot of fruit and vegetables will enable to body to produce more collagen. Eat vegetables first then fruit as this stabilises glucose spikes.

• Retinoids. They increases collagen and collagen precursors, increases cell turnover, and has been proven to reduce wrinkles.

• Lifestyle. Lifestyle habits contribute to the breakdown of collagen. Smoking or/ and a diet high in refined carbohydrates and sugar will break down collagen and elastin.

PREVENT HYPERPIGMENTATION THIS SUMMER

Hyperpigmentation is when the skin overproduces melanin in an area and is typically a response to inflammation. It can be cause by a spot, sun exposure or trauma such as a cut or burn. Darker skin types tend to be affected more by hyperpigmentation.

How to reduce the likelihood of hyperpigmentation…

• SPF. Yes I know I go on about it, but really wear it, top it up and don’t burn.
• Do not pick at your spots. This is literally the worst thing to cause unwanted marks.
• Use an antioxidant such as Vit C or Niacinamide.
• Use a specific range of products that contain ingredients to prevent hyperpigmentation- enlighten range is 👌🏼 I sell it if you are interested.
• Wear a hat and sunglasses at peak sun times.

IS SPF IN MAKEUP OR MOISTURISER ENOUGH?

No sorry, just no. You need at least two fingers worth of SPF to get the correct coverage to protect your skin and you never apply this much moisturiser or makeup and they tend to have a lower SPF in them.

Moisturisers containing SPF frequently only protect you from UVB and not UVA. This means you won’t burn, but your collagen will break down and you’ll still get wrinkles, ummmm no thanks! They also tend to not be water resistant or rub resistant so as soon as you sweat or start applying makeup over them it’s game over.

Makeup also would require over 6-7 times the amount of a standalone SPF (6 or 7 fingers worth) to get protection. In other words it would take a tonne of makeup to provide adequate protection - not even Kim Kardashian wears this much foundation! Also you have to be extra careful with makeup as the FDA are really strict on how SPF criteria is met and most foundations do not meet this criteria.

So just add a broad spectrum SPF 30 or 50 to get the protection you need.
