Doesn’t gel polish ruin your nails? In short, no.
I’ve had this question asked many times & it’s actually the removal process that makes them weak, brittle & prone to breaking, if, done incorrectly.
Electric files/wrong file grit (coarseness), picking off gel, repeatedly soaking in acetone & even lack of or no proper prepping of the nail before applying gel can cause the natural bed to suffer.
I use Mylee’s ‘Magic Gel Remover’ that’s painted directly onto the polish, after buffing, leave for 3-5 minutes to work it’s ‘magic’. Easy, quick & harmless.

Side note: A lot of gel removers can contain methylene chloride (paint stripper), but this one doesn't.
