So mow the lawn and tidy up the hedges, plant some wild flowers, pick the fruit, water the veg. Treat your body to all the nourishment and care that it deserves for carrying you around all day/ for your life!
This week we learn to lean into the autumn shift with postures and props to help us release tension into the ground.

Autumn, when the fruits that gathered their summer - sun sugar get ready to fall. When we let go and prepare to hunker down. How does our practice change at this time? What postures do we turn to and enjoy more?
How is your body feeling as the weather cools and dampens?
Classes this week:
Tuesdays 12.30pm
Wednesdays 9.30am
Winchcombe - 6.30pm & 8pm
Delicious heart warming flows to set the body up for the change in season.

A joy teaching these lovely people this morning under the yellow laburnums. A few slippery worms joined us on our mats halfway through.
Next class outdoors is on the 22nd June - book in!
Some of the lovely people who made it to my outdoor class at Postlip this morning. Sorry Jules, Cathy and Julie I took this after you had left!
Today I really enjoyed my job. I taught a trauma informed yoga session to a lovely enthusiastic group of people in a recovery program. It's a regular weekly class. Some had never done yoga before and told me they 'didn't know their bodies could feel like that'. I then taught some regular, and some new faces at Orange, another group of varied wonderful students. A strong and steady vinyasa flow inspired by finding the prana and apana energies within us. Thank you everyone I taught for making my job so interesting :)
Beltane Blessings everyone!
Have you ever seen
anything
in your life
more wonderful
than the way the sun,
every evening,
relaxed and easy,
floats toward the horizon
and into the clouds or the hills,
or the rumpled sea,
and is gone--
and how it slides again
out of the blackness,
every morning,
on the other side of the world,
like a red flower
streaming upward on its heavenly oils,
say, on a morning in early summer,
at its perfect imperial distance--
and have you ever felt for anything
such wild love--
do you think there is anywhere, in any language,
a word billowing enough
for the pleasure
that fills you,
as the sun
reaches out,
as it warms you
as you stand there,
empty-handed--
or have you too
turned from this world--
or have you too
gone crazy
for power,
for things?

Movement is and play is important for adults as well as kids! What ways do you 'play' on a daily basis? Play invites curiosity and curiosity in our bodies and sensations brings us wholly into the present. Play is too - you can't be involved in playing unless you're fully engaged in it.
Hello! Next week I will be releasing a new video for my students. A short, morning flow practice for those that wish to practice more often but maybe still find it challenging to do this unaided or have limited time. They will be posted on my you tube channel. Enjoy!
We've been exploring using props in bow pose or Dhanurasana this week. Raising the middle of the body can allow you to access the posture and the feeling of the posture in a different way. In my case it allows for a much more uplifting feeling of opening across the front that I don't feel if I am flat on the ground where I feel like a beached turtle! Some of my students found the opposite and preferred without props. Finding your own practice is about exploring the options and finding agency in your practice. I love it when students choose to take a different route because it shows they are actively engaging in their practice.
So happy to be teaching in my favourite studio today! Come full circle from teacher training 4 years ago....Join me on Tuesday lunchtimes 12.30 for mindful Vinyasa Flow with lots of play :)
Bird of paradise or Svarga Divijasana. I love the way this posture brings together loads of the energetic actions we learn and practice in Vinyasa Flow regularly. It draws on a lot of hip opening, core and balance work. The journey to reach it is of course more interesting than the final thing....
There are two ways to come into this pose - watch my little breakdown video if you'd like to give it a try or come to this week's classes to learn the progression!

Using the wall to warm up my back. Start with hands close to the wall then kick up and hold, gradually take hands further away, lower your bum till you touch the wall behind you. Later, bend the legs. Hold a few breaths. Do these at the end of a warming practice. Nice prep posture for upward wheel.
