Steady progress on our new Old Lyric Hall aparthotel.
Work is progressing steadily on our new aparthotel. The furniture has been delivered and now we are applying the final touches to make it a 'home away from home' for our guests.
We are all looking forward to seeing the finished product!
Our aparthotels have no reception counters for a reason
The aparthotel sector is booming as more people see the benefit of self-contained accommodation. The attraction of staying in a 'home away from home' with cooking and washing facilities appeals to people who want the flexibility of preparing their own meals, as well as those who may be more cost conscious.
A number of hotel operators are now entering this 'boutique' sector. The accommodation they offer varies from standard hotel rooms with a small kitchen unit squeezed in, to one or two bedroom apartments.
Most have copied their hotel operating formula and have a reception counter and a restaurant, bar etc. The only difference to a standard hotel is that the rooms have some cooking facilities and possibly a washer/dryer. They still expect people to queue up at a reception counter, collect their key and spend their money in the restaurant and bar.
Some will feel that a manned reception counter creates a more personal approach and whilst there is some merit in this, much depends on the individual staff member dealing with the guest. Of course, this comes at a cost which is passed on to the guest in the form of a higher room rate.
We see things differently and cater for those guests (and there are lots of them) who want a speedy, seamless check-in, check-out procedure and a feeling of independence. We simply don't see the need for a reception counter and the additional room cost.
Our state of the art keyless door entry system means no delays and with our on-call team standing by to answer queries we can offer a first class service.
Importantly, we look at what we would like to have in the apartment that would create a 'home away from home' experience. With this in mind, our guests have a fully equipped kitchen, Sky TV, luxury bedding etc. It's all about creating a homely space with a personal touch for our guests, rather than a cold hotel room they don't want to spend any time in.
The good news is that the market is big enough to cater for remote check-in through to full service aparthotels. Regardless of the model, the key to success is to keep striving to do it perfectly - it will pay off for us and our guests.

We really enjoy breathing new life into structurally sound character buildings and providing quality interiors and a 'home away from home' feeling for our guests. It all adds up to a satisfying and rewarding experience for ourselves and our investors.
Our next project, which will be available shortly, is a former public house. Exciting times ahead!
