Our Orthotist Mark has been casting for ’s for 2 young warriors in clinic today.

Two time world champion paracyclist and friend of .ortho is trackside at the paralympics cheering on the riders whilst wearing his .
It’s always fun having Jon in clinic, he brings his infectious smile and joyous presence with him.
We look forward to seeing him when he’s back and would love to be there with him.

Lovely meeting and cup of tea this morning with Sian, Chloe and Zoe Therapy Stars this morning talking about improving referral pathways.

Around 7 years ago I assessed this client and had a pair of hard shell orthoses made for him.
🏃🏼‍♂️ He’s an ultra distance runner.
💪🏻 He wears his orthotics full time.
At the time and for a while after I wondered if they were being used due to the amount of running he did or whether he’d tolerate them.
Guess what……. They did work and he did tolerate them. Also, his daughter who presented similarly had a pair. She is also high activity.
MAG Orthotics Limited manufactured these and they’re still going strong. Yes, that could do with a refurb but

"I saw Mark for treatment on my feet on the advice of my physio. I was suffering with chronic pain and aching related to joint stiffness and previous surgery.

After seeing Mark for some hard massage/manipulation, they felt like a new pair of feet! He got back a lot of the missing sensation, particularly in my right foot (prior surgical intervention), and the circulation improved in both feet also. I had more movement in both feet and ankles generally. I also didnt have the usual discomfort in the evening and during the night. I hadn't realised this was what had been disturbing my sleep for a long time.

The initial relief lasted a good couple of weeks and I have booked in further sessions with Mark because it seems to me that a regular treatment would be worthwhile to maintain the improvement I felt."

🦵 Painful knees when trying to keep active can be really frustrating.......

👎 Sometimes this can be down to stresses caused by your foot and ankle position.
👎 It can also be due to weakness or poor form.
👍 Orthotics can help by reducing the stresses through your knees and slowing down the forces causing the niggles.
🦶 Looking at your gait and using exercises to strengthen can help.
🥵 Exercise moderation can also be a factor. Looking at how much you run/ walk. Changing your routine or just reducing down to be able to build up again.
