Coeliac awareness week
Coeliac disease is an autoimmune condition (a condition in which the body’s immune system mistakes healthy tissues as foreign and attacks them). It is not an allergy or intolerance. If gluten containing foods are eaten, damage to the lining of the small bowel is caused by the gluten, because the body ends up attacking its cells.
It’s estimated that currently in the UK 1 in 100 people have coeliac disease with 7 out of 10 people currently undiagnosed.
Here at the Bluebell Cafe we understand what effects gluten can have on our coeliac customers, although we can’t guarantee there won’t be cross contamination due to our busy and small kitchen. We have a full menu which is marked gf and we do everything we can to adapt many of dishes to accommodate their needs.
