There are more and more osteopathic professionals pursuing academic degrees and involvement in research in the last ten years.

Students are growing into research and evidence-based practice as a vital part of their education as in all healthcare studies. This prepares the students into interprofessional working and research.

In the United States osteopathic physicians are easily involved in the academic research due to the nature of their education.

Outside the U.S. there are several PhD’s specifically as on osteopath but usually osteopaths pursue professionals specifically (UCO) PhDs in various specialties such as neurology, psychology, person centered care and so on.

This week is Osteopathic Healthcare Week.

From the beginning Osteopaths wanted to understand the effects of physical manual therapy on human physiology. Research goes on within the osteopathic community and is shown by the Journal of American Osteopathic Association now being 119 years old and in the UK the existence of NCOR (National Council for Osteopathic Research) who work to improve the evidence base for osteopathy and provide osteopaths with up to date information from research.

This year Osteopathy is celebrating its 150th birthday.
The profession began in America and has evolved to become an Allied Health Profession here in the UK recognised by the NHS.

Chislehurst Business Centre, formally called Sunnymead. This building was designed by Joseph Moye in 1875. It has a Gothic polychrome entrance archway with black marble columns and a cherub in a terracotta medallion.
